Campy horror? Slither.
|
Antonio start with the classics my friend, half of the shit people recommended here is horror done my CG.... which isn't horror.
Here are four that will fuck with your mind and soul: |
Lot of good one's already mentioned :thumbsup
The Ring Paranormal Activity (Low budget, but VERY worth watching) Martyrs (French movie) Frontier(s) (French movie, fucking sick, very violent) REC (Spanish movie) Saw 1 (the other one's are more or less the same plot, lot of people dying in very creative ways :winkwink:) But you also should watch some classics, even if they're not as good as today's movies (special effects, etc.) like the Evil Dead series :thumbsup |
Pre 2000 is where it's at... I'm a big fan of biblical horror, so The Exorcist is up there among my favorites.
If you only see one horror movie though, I concur that it should be The Ring. Rob Zombie's Halloween should get an honorable mention (not the sequel though). |
Dead silence
|
My favorite mindfuck movies are all by Stephen King. and I seen an interview with him once where he said Clive Barker scared the shit out of him. so I'd go with either of these guys' movies. lol
I used to watch all horror movies, but I stopped after Cat's Eye by Stephen King. I was by myself one night and a cat I had outside had had kittens, and when it was over, I got up to go to the back of the house and all I could see outside my door was a bunch of glowing eyes and all of them were meowing REALLY loud..... scared the living hell out of me. lol |

Saw Anthony Hopkins in an interview today talking about his new movie "The Rite" and he said it right off the bat, it's a very scary movie.

ill second this one, does a great job of showing the helplessness of the victims. pretty creepy. |
What about zombie films like Dawn of the Dead, and Dead Snow
|
The Broken
After.Life Dark Corners Frozen Hellraiser, all movies nine miles down The Crazies The Haunting in Connecticut Farmhouse The Grude, 1,2,3 The Ruins The Cabin, 1,2 ( 2 is a little humorous ) Those come to mind when people ask me for a good suggestion. |

Check Hostel 1 and 2
Saw Wrong Turn 1,2 and 3 |
Other people mentioning some earlier classics got me to thinking about very early horror-
30's horror films- Todd Brownings "Freaks" - still disturbing today. Island Of The Lost Souls - based on the book by HG Wells, i'd put this in top 20 all time. Later 50's-60's horror films- Night Of The Demon - you don't see alot but it is intense. The Innocents - horror-ghost story, very creepy. The Haunting - another one where its what you don't see... And one other new one you should see is a Canadian film called "Pontypool" I've never seen anything like it, goes far beyond the zombie genre. Trailer- |
Most horror films bore me... never scary, stupid effects, stupid characters, etc.
Two that stick out for me in recent years that I actually found entertaining, if not scary are: Let the Right One In (not the American remake) Antichrist |

Dead Set, the 5 part British mini-series about a zombie apocalypse. That was pretty awesome.
|
It's not post 2000, but the original "Halloween" is classic.

Do you want movies in English? Let the Right One In was an awesome Swedish(?) movie and the English version(Let Me In) was almost as good, but not quite. |
High Tension
|
the kids are all right
|
why not pre2000? its where the best horror movies are made
|
Wrong Turn
|
House of 1000 Corpses.
Wrong Turn is also very good. |

Then again I loved DEAD ALIVE. Probably the goriest movie I've ever seen (mass killings of zombies with the business end of a lawnmower! So great..) |
|
The Evil Dead - (Part One only)
The Exorcist - (Editor's Cut) Mausoleum I Spit On Your Grave PIN : A Plastic Nightmare Friday the 13th - (Parts I and II only) Black Christmas (1974) Hostel |

I will watch Martyrs and the Ring - both sound like good movies, I hope I don't freak out
|
The first 2 Hellraisers - I get bad dreams and think about going to church after watching these
The Ring - solid jump out of your seat movie The Shining - the thinking man's scary movie. Just a well made movie The Thing (original) - this movie is just bad ass. Gross, scary and suspense Carrie - just creepy |
