This is not some fantasy "a" vs "b" measuring contest of fighting powers.

Go do some research on how many trained soldiers in WW2, Korea and Vietnam were actually shooting to kill. The modern army goes into intense training to make them killers. Untrained people with the weapons they have in their closet, against trained killers with some of the most modern weapons ever. No contest.
Quote:

The total numbers of actual "killers" in the military is very small, there are more retired members with this "secret knowledge" you imply in the citizenry.
Which is why soldiers today go through intense training.
Quote:

"sophisticated weapons" HAHA. How many times has this been used in the past and
proven false? The crusades? Vietnam? Afghanistan? The battle of Endor? :)
The people of Afghanistan and Vietnam were/are losing combatants by the 100s against 1 US soldier. They kept/keep coming because they have balls. The first time the "citizens" start to take hits they will run like rabbits.

Quote:

Are you serious. In this scenario you believe that? To foolish to answer directly.

You may live in the past, but you have learned nothing from it.
So tell us all when a popular armed uprising worked against an army and I will tell you 10 times it failed. For everyone you name.

The last time the US had the balls to stand up against the rulers was in the 60s and 70s.

anti Vietnam war protests.

http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/protest-8.jpg

Civil Rights protests.

http://www.xtimeline.com/__UserPic_L...4432774936.JPG

Those people had balls, they were shot and and killed and kept coming back. I'm afraid to say the US citizens of today don't have the same balls. Getting 10% to uprise is treason, getting 60% is impossible and that's a revolution. When the majority say enough is enough.

But dream on that it could happen. Every few years politicians need your votes and they promise you what ever you ask for and kiss your ass for a few months. Once elected the populace takes what ever is dealt to them.

Yes 300 million armed Americans would over throw the Government. About as likely as you gaining a grain of sense. Of that 300 million it would need to include the army. Game over.

In the real world it would be more like 300,000 tops.

Let's take a look at those, outside the army/police, who have guns and have proved they're willing to use them against people. Fuck me the Gangs, gangsters, Far Right, Far Left and nutters. Do you really want these guys in the front line? They would make a real cohesive unit. :Oh crap

You guys would shit your pants if these guys were in charge.

For those who want to read up on the effectiveness of soldiers there's a lot to read. Intense training today has made the difference. Mr and Mrs Suburbia ain't going to get a look in. No matter what guns they have in their closets.

Also during the civil rights marches police and National Guard also killed marchers. We had balls in those days.

I think the size of the balls of some here was summed up by one poster. Something like this.

"If I can kill Bambi I can kill someone threatening me."

If Bambi had a gun he would shit his pants. :1orglaugh

But as you sit by your keyboard acting tough and scratching your beer belly, it's nice to dream of having balls.

If the Nazis had faced fierce opposition from their own people, the troupes would have soon lost moral and jumped ship (who wants to be bogged down in a war with their own people?), instead of blindly following a charismatic leader.

I've hi lited the flaw in your thinking.

The only way the US masses would uprise in any cohesive fashion is if the Religios Right took over. Then you guys would really need your guns. Otherwise dreaming they would come together and fight is just that, a dream.

Would you fight if a leader stole an election?
If a leader took you into an illegal war?
If a leader ruined your economy?

So what exactly would it take?

Dictators have a habit of getting the Army and Police well behind them first. Look around at the World. When didn't they? French Revolution comes to mind. Revolution is an option when your kids are dying of starvation.

Even the Russian Revolution had soldiers on their side, returning soldiers from the front and the Navy fired on St Petersburg.

Not citizens, armed traitors. That's what the US military would be told they are firing on.

The military is loyal to the government, not the people. Don't for a second think otherwise.

Cute how you see things 12clicks but I can tell you grew up living and now live a very spoiled and sheltered life, away from all real life things. Probably wouldn't last the first few days of a revolution sad to say. :( Sorry bud.

The way it works would be this: the US president or whoever gives an order to fire on an armed group of rebellious traitors. The military wouldn't want to side with a group of idiots with small guns because they know if the government has even a small fraction of the military support, that small group of idiots will be the losing side.

Which military general wants to be the one that sides with what he sees as the losing side? All they care about is honor and pride, they don't give two shits about the people and citizens.

Anyone with an ambition to take over the country takes the guns into consideration. The "New World Order" people have to be very sneaky. You're unlikely to see an overtly tyrannical police state any time soon.

They would have a fight on their hands if they tried to go door to door rounding people up for internment camps. The rebels aren't going to stand out in the open where the army can use their superior weapons.

The US Army is demoralized fighting the sand people. Imagine how they will feel fighting a guerrilla war against Americans. So it is unlikely that the Army will ever be used against its own people, for the simple reason that it won't be easy.

Don't bother the guy is beyond dumb if he thinks the different factions in the US are going to come together in anything like the numbers, in relationship to the population, as they did when fighting the British.

Think of the scenario it would take to bring the people together and then wonder if that would happen. But then some Americans believe the Anti Christ is on his way.

The only cohesive faction there is is the religious right.

moeloubani you really should stop pretending you are speaking for all canadians because I have yet to meet one with such uneducated, unread and internet video fueled nonsense in my entire life... stop saying treason... treason is when one person does something against their country or betrays their allegiance ie gives out secrets etc.. going in and blasting guns for no reason is simply murder. When it's a group or militia that is backed up by their own constitution, they have the right to take up arms and the right to rise against tyranny either foreign or domestic. That's not the right to go in and shoot them up either but they have the right to stand up for their rights as they should. It only sounds barbaric to you because you have only decided to believe that there is only two types of people, one who don't like guns and gun crazed yokels who spend every extra penny they have on ammo waiting for shit to hit the fan... The truth is there are plenty of sensible people who believe in that right and freedom both educated and accomplished so lets simmer down the ignorance a bit shall we?

Paul Markham believes that the (currently overtaxed, overstretched) american army would happily steam roll over their own people, their own cities, their own families... that shit is funny... I'm not Canadian, and from there your post went downhill.

Treasonists are the losers.

To be a soldier you have to be trained to a very high level to kill on the orders of others. Without standing there and thinking if it's a good idea or a bad idea. If you knew anything about soldiers you would understand what the training involves.

The number of times trained soldiers have turned their guns on civilians is so many it's not worth discussing. For some reason people think the US soldiers would be different. If it was the over whelming masses it wouldn't need the Army. The possibility of that is as remote as some here gaining some common sense.

The over whelming majority of Americans would put up with almost anything if they can still switch on their TVs and go raid the fridge. That saddens me because I have nothing but admiration for Americans who did stand up to tyranny. In the Revolution, Civil War, Civil Rights, Anti Vietnam and 2 World Wars.

Look around you at today. The Enron Crisis and other company corporates who robbed you, Iraq War, crashing economy because of greed, President stealing an election and probably other things that would of brought millions onto the streets. Barely gets a whimper these days.

Paul Markham 02-08-2011 03:52 AM

So let's imagine a scenario where armed Americans take to the streets to over throw the Government.

In the fantasy world of some, the Army sit back and do fuck all while these armed civilians force a change in Government. At the front of this armed rebellion is some of the keyboard warriors posting here. The Government gives in and goes off in fast retreat and the rebels take over.

Or they lose and the Government forgive them because they were revolutionaries.

And they live happily ever after.

IN THE REAL WORLD.

The army is called out and rounds up the rebels. The moment they start firing the Army gets tough and the armed rebels come off far worse. The ring leaders are put on trial for treason and executed, those found to be firing are also put on trial.

And the Government carries on as it is.

Also in the Fantasy World, 300 million Americans rise up.

Of course in the Real World, 300,000 might wave a banner. :Oh crap

But go on dreaming 12clunks, your balls might grow if you do.

These clowns live in a World where the US Army of trained soldiers is no match against rednecks with guns. Because they can shoot at Bambi. :1orglaugh

They don't even bother to hit Google and see how many time the National Guard have been called out and USED EFFECTIVELY against US civilians armed or not.

You've been through boot camp so have an idea of what training is about these days for the elite units.

We agree at last. :thumbsup

I love the idiot ramblings of senile old third worlders.
They always imagine that Americans (including our soldiers) are the same as the third world trash they live with.

The longer ML, the more Military desertion due to their sworn oath to protect the constitution. Meaning, if the constitution was suspended there would be a breakdown in moral that could cause a civil war. So before that would happen I am almost certain of a military coup d'état to buy time and organize a better government.

Using your numbers (300k) these rebels would probably slaughter local governments first and then settle old scores on the populace. This would cause more people to join in and that 300k would mushroom to 3 million in a matter of months because of the breakdown of local law. Meaning, the military's primary goal is to protect the federal government first and the national guard would cover state/local municipalities and that's impossible at the moment.

Sadly, what you are too stupid to understand is we are in a type of ML now due to governmental fear/control, military is spread too thin, and the peoples hatred for the current domestic terrorism propaganda., ie Patriot act. Maybe you'll wake up one day and realize Osama bin laden is just a tool for more control and why we will never catch him. It's in the Government best interest not too.:2 cents:

If your scenario ever happened most on this board would be scared shitless.

But the real truth is in the part I hi lited.

If the society broke down then the Government would have to proclaim ML. Otherwise the streets will belong to every bunch of Gangsters, far Left, far Right, Religious Nuts or just the type of people who run around the woods playing soldiers at the weekend. Anyone with the most guns and will to use them and would rule.

That might be the Generals in command of the Army, if they sit back it would be your worse nightmare.

Ordinary people like you Demon 12 Clicks would be barricading yourself indoors and hiding behind your sofas. The only thing that keeps you safe and free are the police, Army and ultimately the Government. Without them we're all in the shitter.

You're living in a dream world if you think you have the same capacity for violence as Gangs, Gangsters, Extremist groups or weekend soldiers (militia).

This shit still going on??

The problem with dreaming is in dreams, things turn out for the better. Reality is where things don't always go as smoothly as in dreams.

300,000k armed citizens march on the Government, local or Federal and demand what?

Or they start shooting people and then what?

In dreams everyone joins in and the Government is overthrown and the people who replace it are nice and lower taxes, make the unemployed work, send back all the illegal immigrants and solve all the Nations problems.

In reality a scenario like after the French, Russian, Chinese Revolutions and countless others take place. Society, Democracy and the rule of law is slung out the window. But Americans are different.

When The South overwhelmingly disagreed with the laws The North was passing. The North invaded and settled with?

Yes you're spot on. With the ARMY killing US citizens.

This says a lot about people with balls in Eastern Europe.

As concerning as that map looks you fail to understand the the US GDP has also grown. Meaning, 20 years ago our GDP was 6 trillion and now it is 14.5 trillion. The Debt percentage is a higher now, but our economy has also doubled itself in the last 20 years.

So let me fill you in. The US growth from 2000-2011. $9.8 trillion- $14.1 trillion = 4.3 trillion

China's growth from 2000-2011. $1.2 trillion- 4.9 trillion. = 3.8

The US has a lot of external debt ($14 trillion) but the US gross is 3x more money with a population 3.2 x smaller. :2 cents:

The US is a powerhouse of industry still and gambling to build China's economy so we can advance on "their" market place and it's working. 2011 was the first year the US sold more cars in China then it did in the US.

Finally, China has grown too fast and we want to be there deeply rooted when that bubble pops.

Never... Never, bet against the US.

Awesome post man.

Middle Eastern Arabs*. If you look at history, the disconnect during the enlightenment caused the Middle Eastern Arabs to revert back to barbarianism.
