These things never turn out in your favor.

videobunch 03-01-2011 05:43 PM

They will figure it out, then come up with some fee.

I have no problem if they find the error and hit me for it. Although the majority thinks this will happen I kinda doubt it. Although this is my bank I was using another institutions card - I can't see them hitting the card again if it's not present.

I could be wrong.

I'm curious all these people saying the bank will catch it- would you return the money or wait for them to catch the error - I have a feeling 90% would keep it and see if they catch the error...

I have a feeling it's more like 99.9999999%

papill0n 03-01-2011 11:44 PM

huge bank error here yesterday

cash machines were literally spitting out thousands of dollars of cash all across the state

Sausage 03-01-2011 11:47 PM

Yeah sounds like the Australian one yesterday. Police have already said that they will prosecute anyone who doesn't give it back.

blonda80 03-02-2011 12:09 AM

The only error that I got to an ATM in here, 2 years ago I think, was when I asked 1200 and it only gave me 1000. I was so pissed off :(
I didn`t went to the bank to argue with the idiots but I never used that ATM machine or bank again.
But this is Romania :) Shit happens.

I don`t think I would keep the money in your place. I never take what isn`t mine because I have tons of bad luck and usually I lose 3 times more than I "win"

CYF 03-02-2011 12:16 AM

50 extra bills

SmokeyTheBear 03-02-2011 12:21 AM

i think some people are forgetting that banks know a bit about money :) If it is easy to find out where the money went , they will do it, they certainly wont be reviewing cam footage to check , if it doesn't come out automated they wouldn't waste the time to investigate a loss of < $500 , they aren't stupid , it wouldn't be cost effective.

INever 03-02-2011 12:54 AM

Was this a bank ATM of just a money vending machine somewhere?

It's not cost effective to have a $8/hour employee review a tape to get a couple hundred back? :1orglaugh

A "friend of mine" got extra money from an ATM, before, and it never ended up being a problem.

I think thats a bit different than a machine mistakenly pushing a few extra bills. That sounded like a system wide problem and they would have records.

It's been a week and half and no change on the statement or my account.:thumbsup

TripleXPrint 03-10-2011 05:18 PM

Was the ATM at a bank or was it one of those inside a gas station or grocery store? If it's the bank, give the money back. They're going to get it back either way. If it's one of those inside gas stations and grocery stores. Keep it. They should have better engineers building their equipment. Plus that $3 fee they charge every time you withdrawal....just call that a payback.

So I'm at the ATM yesterday and I slide my card in and request $100. The machine starts spitting out $20's really fast. I look at the huge stack and think that I made a mistake entering, but no I entered $100.

All in all the machine gave me $540.

I personally have no problem keeping a bit of a huge banks profits considering all the fees they've charged me - would you keep it?

Fuck Yeah!! Love it! Happened to me years ago, went to bank drive thru to cash an $800.00 check and get a money order for $800.00 simple right....

well the teller hands me back an envelope with a money order for $800.00 and $800.00 cash! Of course I did not realize this until I had pulled off and was around the corner!

Of course by the time I got home from the mall buying clothes, computer accessories and eating steak and shrimp there were 25 messages on my voice mail from the bank teller accusing me of stealing from and robbing the bank!

The phone messages were so threatening and hostile, it just made me spend the rest of the $800.00 on more novelty items!

I am like wait you made a mistake and you accuse me of being a thief.... F U and the horse you rode in on!

So yes I get very tingly when a bank "error" lands in the peasants favor! I know if I had half the money back that I have paid in questionable "bank fees" I would be very very comfortable!

Screw the banks before they screw you!

Years ago - like twenty years ago - I got two weeks of pay, $600, and put it into the ATM. A few days later I my card was a declined. Go into the bank, they claim they never got my check. Huge hassle for me, bounced fees all over the place, had to have the check canceled and my boss had to reissue, it was like two weeks of hell - and I had to borrow money to get by.

A year later BOA contacts me - turns out my deposit "fell through a crack" in the ATM and they found it when they removed the ATM to be serviced. Fuckers.

This is why I do all my deposits in person. Sure, it can be a pain in the ass but not as big a pain in the ass as when a check goes missing or someone lifts some cash.

I would never put a cash deposit into a drop but I know a friend who did. $1k and when the bank entered it in they claimed it was only $700.

Always in person, always get a receipt.

very true. I've had two bank errors in my favor and each time I was tagged with the extra amount. Ask any banking person, if the money is not yours you'll get a nice negative charge in the amount.

You do realize you have publicly admitted theft and/or fraud, right?

For the record, it's happened to me and I've returned it. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Already posted to my account at $100. I'll check back in a week and maybe in a month and let you know if I got hit for the total.

Close your account and move it to another bank. :thumbsup

I am sure they will just take it out of your account once they see the video.

This guy has no problem stealing money as long as he feels he can rationalize it. Nice. I'm sure this thread will get you some great business. Kudos to you on exercising some really great judgement.
