WebCashMaker 03-13-2011 05:20 AM

I enjoyed reading his posts.

Sorry to hear the news :(

cherrylula 03-13-2011 05:20 AM

I can't believe it... in shock. So tragic. I still owe him a poke back on fb and he was just out there snowboarding the globe...

RIP my friend.

JFK 03-13-2011 05:25 AM

Rob, I was gonna stay out, but somehow I know Quiet would bump this thread if it were about me. =)

So as hard as it is to type, id like to say

yes it is bro. Quiet and I talked about how his success came at the expense of his 20s, and looking at his FB pics from his last years they are filled with him snowboarding and enjoying life with his friends and family - overlooking cliffs and canyons of snow and trees - not behind a computer screen all day anymore.

He always had a way of inspiring people he never even met, and in his death, he does so again. He taught me many things, and as I already said, I am forever thankful for his friendship. Add not accepting his offer to spend a week with him at new place with my wife and daughter to list of regrets, she was too young but his line of "we sell diapers in Canada" to lure me in made me laugh...

Relentless 03-13-2011 05:43 AM

One of the nicest and most helpful people I've 'met' ot the Internet.
Didn't have the chance to meet him in person unfortunately.
The world needs more people like him.

RIP

Zuzana Designs 03-13-2011 05:44 AM

My condolences to his family. RIP Dave :(

MrGusMuller 03-13-2011 05:45 AM

New here.
Just saw a post of him before reading this regarding he was earning some bucks without doing anything.

Well, its always sad to hear that someone from the community passed away.

Rest in peace Dave.

Truth. :pimp

Martin 03-13-2011 06:05 AM

That really sucks. :(

R.I.P Dave.

Any word on the cause of death? In his last FB update he was saying something about having a hard time sleeping.

"Yet another crappy sleep... and another day on the couch. New ultra portable laptop should be coming today though... *weak smile*"

"JF: misery loves company. I don't know when I'm going to... feel better again, been like this for a month. Couch and tv are my new found friends. I can't believe all the crap that is on daytime tv lol."

Very sad news. Seemed like a nice guy..

vdbucks 03-13-2011 06:12 AM

Although I don't know him personally, I'd like to offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Death of a friend and/or loved one is never easy to deal with, and we truly hope those of you who were close to him can celebrate his life while mourning his death.

BJ 03-13-2011 06:14 AM

there are many causes of death which initially seem like a minor flu or even food poisoning. I knew someone who died that had very minor symptoms of nausea and then one day he finally went to the hospital and it was too late.

Pipecrew 03-13-2011 06:15 AM

Damn I really hope this is some kind of mixup. If gfy had a flag it really needs to go half mast right now.

Shap 03-13-2011 06:17 AM

Wow RIP very sad news he was so young and enjoying life

Woke up this am with a message from his fiancee, I'm speechless and floored. Dave was a great guy, may he rest in peace :(

TheDoc 03-13-2011 06:26 AM

One of the Industries best has fallen..... rest well my friend.

kristin 03-13-2011 06:37 AM

Always sad to lose a young soul from our industry family. RIP Quiet, you'll be missed.

Shap 03-13-2011 06:46 AM

This news is so sad. Here was a guy who made his money, walked away and was enjoying life. At least he got to enjoy life more than most. You never know when your time is up.

I can't think of anyone that provided more motivation or hope for others here on gfy. Quiet is not only a legend but a guy who changed many of our lives without ever meeting us. I feel for his family, fiancée and friends.

TisMe 03-13-2011 06:53 AM

Condolences to Dave and his family, he will be missed.

selena 03-13-2011 06:59 AM

Wow. I always loved his posts, and actually thought about him yesterday, even though I never exchanged a personal message with him. I was in the Dollar Store, standing in line, and looking at the trac phones hanging on the rack. It made me think of a post by him where cell phones were being discussed, and his thoughts that just because you had lots of money didn't mean you had to spend it.

My sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.

CaptainHowdy 03-13-2011 07:00 AM

I would have landed the task of announcing this new to the GFY community to someone that could actually spell "tonight" ...

Nicky 03-13-2011 07:01 AM

Ah crap. RIP Dave :(

Everyone knows that the one person who loved to call everyone else an idiot was the biggest fucking idiot this board has ever seen. SleazyDream is the epitome of moron.

Please don't sidetrack things though. At least not in this thread.

Pornwolf 03-13-2011 07:28 AM

I got the same email from Julie as well. I considered Dave a friend. I just can't believe it. How something could happen to him of all people is shocking.

Like Fletch, I am seriously kicking myself for never taking the time to visit him and Julie at the new place. Damn.

I just can't believe this. I really enjoyed seeing him enjoy life as much as he did in the past couple of years.

I got a little worried when he disappeared into the Thai jungle for a while, lol but I've never seen a guy enjoy his days snowboarding, hiking and biking and all the way he did. And he was really really happy with his fiancée Julie. He was in heaven. You don't usually see guys that content with everything about their lives the way he was.

Even without having to say a word he was inspirational because he is the only guy I know under 50 who was able to put work to the side and just do exactly what made him happy. He's definitely the only guy I know like that from the original webmaster class of 2000. Time flies.

How this can happen as fast as it did I will never understand. And why him? Damn. He was a really great guy.

Sid70 03-13-2011 07:28 AM

Can't tell i ever even noticed him posting much tho its been almost 10 years here on gfy. He was lucky making it right and earning a real coin.

May he rest in peace.

This pretty much sums it up. I haven't met him in person either and wasnt talking to him very frequently but yet he has made an impression to me. A very good one to be honest. This is very sad news. RIP Dave!

VikingMan 03-13-2011 07:46 AM

Never met Dave but did chat with him a few times. He inspired me as well way back in the day. 38 is so young but yeah he did spend his last years actually living instead of in front of a computer. Take care of yourselves people:2 cents:

Martin 03-13-2011 07:46 AM

I'm really curious to find out what caused his death. The last person that I knew that seemed perfectly healthy one day then gone a few months later was my best friend's Mom and it was Pancreatic Cancer.

Hank_Heartland 03-13-2011 07:50 AM

Very Sad news!!! I will miss Dave;-( My best to Julie and his family.

gabe100 03-13-2011 07:55 AM

This is terrible news. RIP Quiet. He helped me out tremendously when I first started in this business. Can't even think right now, this is awful.

Mutt 03-13-2011 07:56 AM

shocking :Oh crap

a wise young man with a plan, he wanted to retire by 30 to do what he wanted to do and he did it - just a tragic shame his life was so short. i remember getting on GFY in 2002 and reading his posts, he would never mention his site, and nobody else would either. i finally found a clue via thehun and there it was - the quiet empire. smart guy, he saw something years before others did and worked his ass off in something close to anonymity. i know others who copied or were inspired by his formula and made their own fortunes.

as for sacrificing his 20's, financial and career success has that price for everybody not just adult webmasters. unless you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth.

:glugglug <------ the ultimate quiet tribute, most of his posts ended with the happy little glug glug

For you guy - :glugglug

Think about the respect he got that this board never mentioned his site.

BlackCrayon 03-13-2011 08:05 AM

wow, very sad. quiet was an inspiration to many, including myself. enjoy life now because you never know when you might lose it all..

Slappin Fish 03-13-2011 08:12 AM

snowboarding/biking traveling the world, he seemed like the most healthy laid back guy around :(

wtf kills a guy like that in a month... :Oh crap

RIP Dave, condolences to his fiancée and family.

Harmon 03-13-2011 08:18 AM

Hat's off to a true pioneer in the industry - condolences to family and friends. Although I am sure a private matter, how does something like this happen so young?

F-U-Jimmy 03-13-2011 08:23 AM

Sad news indeed RIP Dave :Oh crap
