Such a shame to pass away at such a young age.
RIP Dave

L-Pink 03-13-2011 08:26 AM

I don't know him ..... I do know of his posts. Rare around here is a man that makes it big but does so without a condescending attitude. He was helpful, insightful, obviously hard working. Between his work and play he lived many more years than his headstone will show. RIP and thank you.

RIP man saw the email as well and thought it couldn't be real

Barry-xlovecam 03-13-2011 08:40 AM

I did not have the pleasure of knowing the man personally ...

My condolences to his friends and family.

I, and I know MANY other people here, consider him a personal friend and looked up to him for his special brand of wisdom.

"Hi Scott,

Dave passed away tonight suddenly after a short illness and this is really sad time for his family and I. Dave was a wonderful person and I know he had a lot of good friends who appreciated how special he was. We love him and miss him very much. Details of a celebration of his life will follow in the next few months. Please let me know what the best way is to get in touch with you. I've only just started contacting his friends and family so I would ask you to please be discreet for the next few days until I can reach everyone. My email address is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX ( i removed that)

Many thanks,

Julie "

(yes Julie asked me in a later email to repost this here)

My heart goes out to Julie and Dave's family. I will miss you Dave, I'm literally in tears right now.

I have to admit, when I got the email from her, that was the last Dave I expected it to be.

RIP, Dave.

My heartfelt condolences to his family. Rest in peace Dave.

GTS Mark 03-13-2011 09:06 AM

Yep it's true I got the message from Julie as well. :-(

Dave was a great guy and he was living an amazing life! Absolutely inspirational how he made so much money and one day just shut it all down and walked away. He lived the life most of us could only dream of and talk about. I emailer him a few weeks back about a ski trip we are planning for the summertime in chile. He of course had skied there and knew everyone to contact and where to go. He seemed more exicited than me about the trip and he wasn't even going haha!!

I never met Dave but felt like I knew him very well from all the Facebook messages and emails back and forth over the years. He was a valued customer of ours and a great person to deal with.

I find it especially sad because this was a guy that didn't just retire from out business and sit on the couch all day. This was a guy that climbed mountains and skied or biked EVERY single day of his life. He had just bought a new place in Fernie BC and was engaged to be married. It's sad that god takes the good ones like Dave so early :-(

Rip buddy you will be missed badly!!

MaDalton 03-13-2011 09:11 AM

Very sad news.

Let it be known that the strongest person in the room is usually the one with the softest voice.

R.I.P Quiet

ShellyCrash 03-13-2011 09:31 AM

This is a serious bummer. My condolences to all.

Peaches 03-13-2011 10:12 AM

Wow. Just Wow. He posted some pictures on another board recently about a new home purchase. And I loved all his pics from the place in Whistler and his skiing/bumming around travels. I think he's probably one of the few people who on their death bed didn't say "I should have done ______" He was enjoying life to the fullest. I saw another post of his where he was looking for health care in another country - IIRC a transplant of some sort where he wouldn't have had to go through the regular (read: long) waits here in North America. I figured it was for a relative or friend. Sad to realize it was probably for him. While I've never met him I've had a lot of convos with him on a business and personal level over SO many years. Just an over all good guy.

RIP Dave and condolences to his family and friends.

LeRoy 03-13-2011 10:21 AM

tragic.

Nikki_Licks 03-13-2011 10:33 AM

Our condolences go out to his Family, may he rest in peace........

Lilit 03-13-2011 10:35 AM

I didn't know Dave in person, but still this is just shocking news. It's sad when people leave so young. After reading posts in this thread I'm convinced that he'll stay in the hearts of many.

My sincere condolences to family and other people he was dear to.

Rest in peace, Dave

LiveDose 03-13-2011 10:39 AM

Way too young to go, he was one of the few that road the online adult wave to the fullest and made the wise decision to get out at its peak.

MaximX 03-13-2011 10:48 AM

Sad News - RIP Quiet.

Terrible to hear... very sad news. RIP Dave.

RRRED 03-13-2011 11:04 AM

Just dropping in to pay my respects. Quiet was quite the fixture around here for so many years and I know he will be greatly missed. We was always so wise, reasonable, funny, and respectful. I do believe you can get to know someone online better than close members of your own family at times. So with that I can say that it was an honor to "know" him and I am happy that he lived life the way he wanted to and cherished every moment.

Rock on, Quiet!

RIP - time to reflect how Quiet affected us all and helped so many - too soon

boneprone 03-13-2011 11:14 AM

Life really is too short. Seems like yesterday we were young kids just getting into the biz and starting out back in those gold rush days. I was also in college at the same time and doing the same ideas and methods during the same era.. There werent many of us around back then it was a tight community and we all knew or knew of eachother.

Hard work and big balls really paid off back then and he was an example of that. When he retired in 2005 I was thinking good for him. Like one poster said he used his years in his 20's to really set up the rest of his life to enjoy... Its sad and unfortunate that his life was taken what I consider to be shortly thereafter.

Life is way too short. Seems just like yesterday we were starting out in this biz together. Seems like yesterday when he retired. Now he's gone.. He had a great life but its really really sad knowing how it was taken short.. He will be missed.

RIP bud.

is this real? its crazy...i remember him posting on another board recently asking if anyone had ever gotten an organ transplant over seas.

sucks :(

fuzebox 03-13-2011 11:17 AM

Fuck. Quiet was always a big inspiration to me, I really looked up to him.

wyldblyss 03-13-2011 11:18 AM

Beyond heartbroken. He represented what Canada was all about. Work hard, play harder. Live life to the fullest. Be kind, love your family and love the great outdoors. I simply can't imagine the grief his family must be feeling.

In life the best you can hope for is to leave a lasting mark when you leave this earth. He did.

I just put you on ignore/bann. I have no desire to read your replies or ever respond to you again.

you are a total idiot.

Sarah_Jayne 03-13-2011 11:37 AM

I just had the same mail. I wasn't following my mail because of my move this week and then opened that and my heart just sank. I had been thinking that I hadn't had an exchange with him on FB in some time. You know, it takes a lot for me to cry these days but Dave was worth crying over and boy I am going through the tissues.

Between him and ASM...phew...just phew

cosis 03-13-2011 11:39 AM

RIP Quiet.
