Well, I have heard only good things about this Webair as a hosting provider, all my buddies who host with Webair say that they are top notch.

AaronM WTF dude? You didn't make sure that backups are turned on? Common man! I always check this in the first place and secondly I do my own local copy from time to time as well just in case. There are also other ways to protect yourself from data loss if you are willing to spend a few bucks more like e.g. raid or cloud storage you gain not only better data security but also better performance...

YOU approached me several years ago and offered me free hosting with Webair in exchange for my support of Webair on the boards. I turned you down because I didn't need another box. A few months later you again approached me with the offer. I declined again. At that time I added you to my GFY sig and started showing support for you on and off the forum. THEN you lost an entire members directory of exclusive content and custom scripting. For that reason, and THAT REASON ONLY, you were removed from my sig and I stopped supporting Webair. Your solution to this was to offer me access to some feeds even though you knew the site was not live. (Wow, how cool of you to offer something you knew would not be used!) I never publicly discussed that you had lost all that content and scripting. Why not? Because it was a free box and my stopping supporting you was enough. I also discontinued using that box for each site except for a single web page that was the front end to my 2257 data which obviously I host elsewhere.

At no point did you ever mention not having a backup with the server you offered. If you want to offer your service to people for free, in order to gain positive feedback, you still need to provide decent service which you failed to do. In fact, you should provide those people exceptional service to make sure they are happy. Making sure their stuff is backed up would save you from this type of situation. To call me a cheapskate after you continuously begged me to take your free server shows once again what your character is really all about.

I became the most unhappy with you a couple of weeks ago when you showed your true colors on ICQ. Not that you wanted the box back, but that you wanted it back because I had hurt Bari's feelings and I was not telling people about my "great experiences" with Webair...Because there were none...Not one...Ever. You want me to lie and unlike you, I won't do that.

And you can stop with your ICQ threats too. Grow the fuck up, act like a man, and realize that you, just like Bari, are responsible for your own fuck ups.


To recap:

1: Webair begged me 3 times to take their free server in exchange for me telling people about my good experiences with them.

2: Webair lost 10's of thousand of dollars worth of exclusive content and scripting when the service they provided failed and they did not have a backup in place.

3: I then stopped supporting Webair and left only the front end to my 2257 website hosted their. (I didn't trust them with the data itself) Perhaps Webair would have preferred if I took everything off the server and made it well known why?

4: The owner of Webair then gets his panties in a wad because I won't lie about his shitty service and I attacked a friend of his for not doing her job.

5: The owner of Webair is now sending me threats on ICQ.


At the end of the day, this thread is about Nat Net. A company who, although I have never hosted with or promoted, has gone out of their way to be be nice to me as well as their competitors. I know a number of people who host with Nat Net and have not heard any horror stories like what I have personally experienced and heard from multiple others who used the previously mentioned service.

I don't follow you say you didnt want the hosting, didn;t need it, and just transferred some inactive sites you just bought to shut him up basically then the data is lost and now it turns into 10s of thousands of dollars exclusive content and scripting??? that doesn't add up. You only had one copy of exclusive content and scripts? really??? you didn't need it but you used it anyway. It was inactive sites but now its 10K's of exclusive content and scripts...

I know where I screwed up. Learned the hard way....But I did learn from it.

However, the fact that I was told a backup was in place when it wasn't...Well, Webair should at least accept responsibility for that but preferred to blame me.

That is 100% UNTRUE. Be a man for once in your life. I gave you the server for FREE, basically handed it to you, and said "here you go man..all you!" Backups were never discussed.

If you were half a webmaster, you would have made backups locally at the very least! In addition to that, you could have logged into your cp, & enabled backups for $10 per month. Sorry man your story has too many holes in it. Seven years of FREE hosting, and i have still yet to receive a thank you!

Shame on you.

The service sucked? The only thing I noticed that you said that happened that was bad was that the data was lost (one instance), I am assuming to a bad HD, over the course of 7 years. Last I checked hardware does go bad, especially hardware that is 7+ years old. Other than that, over the 7 years did you have any other bad experiences with them?

Sounds like if you would have kept a copy of your important stuff local (something everyone should do) then you would have had zero problems. Hard ware problems over the course of 7 years is to be expected from time to time.

Even if you had a backup with them, I would have kept a copy of exclusive content locally along with any important scripts etc.

You had no issues at the time i told you to go, you had only the gift of FREE hosting that i graciously gave you (you seem to keep avoiding that point). He got his FREE hosting stopped after 6 years. If he was paying and got asked to leave that would be a little different, but what is the big deal with stopping to provide a FREE service, for any reason at all ??

Weird twist in this thread, anyway, I have nothing but only good words to say about webair.
I don't understand how someone may post something like this after 6 years of free server.
I also don't understand why anyone would keep only one copy of valuable content and scripts on remote server and never did even one local copy of his data. As far as I know when you go to webair control panel and click backups page there is clearly stated if the backups are on or not. It's just sad to read this all. That's all I wanted to say. I wish everybody good and I hope that everything can be solved in a peaceful way.
