Good Q, My opinion.

Happiness is a process of chasing after and attaining your goals and dreams. What makes the process difficult if not impossible is the need for most people to have a 'job' or two, for basic needs.
How many aspiring actors can't make the audition because WalMart wouldn't give them the day off?

Without a doubt, having money-financing makes this process easier so you don't worry about the basics (food, shelter..etc).

Money makes it easier to achieve happiness.
Without it some can't even get out of the starting gates.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-08-2011 01:18 PM

Money buys freedom, which in most cases will buy people happiness. You don't need to buy a personal fucking Learjet, but to be ale to provide all the necessities of life easily and without worry opens the doors for a smooth happy life. If you're a miserable prick however, you're ALWAYS going to be a miserable prick.

I tried to buy an enema saying I has to poop, but they asked me for money :(

digi 04-08-2011 01:32 PM

I personally think happiness is simply an attitude. You can choose to go through life looking at the negative or choose to look at the positive. Everyone has something that makes them feel good, no matter how much money they make.

PiracyPitbull 04-08-2011 01:46 PM

Money "should" bring increased happiness but that depends on the person and their circumstances.

Wealthy people can lead equally miserable lives as less well off people simply because money cannot buy certain things regardless of bank balance: A meaningful relationship, good health, family unity, trusted friends, acceptance or time etc.

If you have wealth but elements of your life are missing (ones where money can't help) having wealth and trappings will make precious difference.

If none of that bothers them, there's always the fear of losing what they have.

But, If you have your ducks in a row (at least the ones that matter to you), money should increase happiness.

Just depends on the person and their circumstances.

Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official, "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."

The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied. "When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."

Then the chief leaned back and smiled. "Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."

Money isn't everything, but it almost is.

Once you reach that level of comfort, other things start to matter more.

It's good to be young and hungry, much success is born from that and some would argue a necessity for success in general.

Tell it to the starving people in Africa!

Agree with that!

Money makes everything more easy and your chances to be happy are much bigger. But money itself won't make you happy.

I'd sleep on the beach watching the stars every night and hunt tigers with a spear no problem!

But in this society you can no longer do that, you need money to live properly.

The more the better! :winkwink:

"people" think richness is 7.5 milllion, but when people with 7.5 million were asked what rich was, they said 25 mil. People with 25 mil say 125 mil.

In reality, the happiest people are people who do stuff diligently and succeed. Money tends to follow that and happiness comes from going slowly up the ladder. A little more fame and a little more money = happiness.

Like most things in life, working towards the dream is better than the reality :thumbsup

(Gk) 04-09-2011 03:38 AM

People don't know that for sure... they just believe money = happiness! Cause E! says so!

darksoul 04-09-2011 03:40 AM

It makes poor people feel better about themselves if they think rich people aren't happy.
Sure there are cases on both sides, but I'm sure everyone dreams of working two jobs and can barely cover the bills.

it's not like poor people automatically have the best health, they can be unhealthy as well, and then what do they do with no money to buy drugs to cure them? sure, money doesn't buy you happiness, but are most people happy with no money? waking up at 6 am and go to work every single day and coming back home at 7pm, battling traffic, just barely paying bills, rarely go on vocations, not be able to buy toys that you really want, i can keep going but you get my point, is that happiness?... for every unhappy rich guy there are millions of unhappy poor people

Amputate Your Head 04-10-2011 10:58 AM

I've been on both ends of the spectrum.... I've been miserable with lots of money, and happy with none... and vice versa. Money itself will not "make" you happy. It can make things more comfortable for certain.... but being happy is something you gotta find on your own with or without money. Anyone that thinks money buys happiness is full of shit. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. :2 cents:

point is no matter where and what life can be beautiful, horrible, tragic and profound all that the same time. death can do that. respect it like our elders did.

Considering the TOTAL LACK of money is the cause of 99% of my stress and unhappiness I am going to have to wholeheartedly disagree that "Money does not = happiness"

I've lived both sides of the coin over the years,

There were years where I was "rich" meaning I had all the money I needed to take care of ALL my bills, wants, needs and desires, at any given time I could go out and blow $2k - $4k and not give it a second thought, there was plenty of cash to go around.

During that time I did not have a single care in the world, if I wanted something I could get it, ANY sort of issue that COULD arise I was covered for, but then thanks to VERY bad life choices and "habits" I blew every single cent and ended up flat ass broke and homeless.

During those times, I was miserable, partly due to the fact that I KNEW I put myself into that situation, but more so I had no place to live, stay warm, eat etc etc.

These days I'm just barely breaking even, most months I'm behind and I can say I'm deff NOT happy, If I had savings and the bills were all covered, or hell even a "steady" income I'd be allot happier because the stress and worry would be gone!

Hell If I had just a few grand extra I'd be happier then a pig in slop cause that would allow me to kick off two projects that only lack the working capitol to get off the ground.

ohhhh money how I loath thee!

Yeah, but for me at least, being comfortable = being happy.

I've lived a wild ass life in my short 35 years, I've pretty much seen and done it all, these days I just want to know everything is covered so I can relax and spend time with my kids and not have to kill myself working 18+ hours a day tied to my studio computers making content or chasing down invoices.

Being able to load up the wife and kids and head out to the family lake cottage for the week, fish, swim, campfires and 4 wheeling and just UNPLUG would make me the happiest man in the world!

Can't justify taking off like then when the bills are due or late.

I gotta say money DOES set you up for being happy. I know in the years when I was pulling in the really big bucks, I'd do what I wanted to do, buy what I wanted to buy, never worrying about money. Now that it's dropped drastically over the last couple of years, I gotta say it truly sucks ass having to worry.
