I actually had an original nick back in the 90's, but changed it for a few reasons.

1. Everyone thought I was a woman. I had a lot of male webmasters hitting me up on ICQ all the time. Kind of worked in my favor though.

2. Changed it to the current because of the supposed "transparency" I wanted to foster over at N etpond back when I was running it. Almost every board, adult or non, I'm Anthony on. Pretty neat if I say so myself.

It's my real name. Always thought "nicknames" (unless they are the name of your business or a stage name) are stupid and high-schoolish

Here is how I view my employees, fake nicks and posting on forums.

1. A Real Nick, like 'Robbie' for example, that is used by an owner or employee of a company, should be used for all business purposes, like: issues about program, announcements, threads about your site, updating (updates) webmaster support, ideas and business threads, in other words, all business pertaining to.....business. With this account, you should NEVER address your thoughts on anything but the program and business directly effecting it.


2. A Fake Nick, should be used for everything else. It is too easy to get caught up in some bullshit, that's not tied into your business, that takes up time and can bring negative light to your main goal (I hope) which is making money and not clout it with bullshit. Seen it happen here over a dozen times.

I agree. I hate going to meet someone at a show and saying "Hey are you Pussymagnet123?" or some other dumb name like that. I know what you will think, surely you email confirmed meetings etc? Yes, but a lot of people still sign off with their forum names instead of their real names. Ridiculous if you ask me.

Not all of us want our real names tied to this shit. Basic rule of thumb: Once it's on the Internet, it's there forever. :2 cents:

Mine is company name for branding but I usually use ElPresidente or TotallyAweSSome

company name + real name. I always use my real name as I think it's more personal/professional to do so.

back in 1999 i ran a bunch of names against each other, like sleazy, porn, dream, fuck, sex, stories, etc.. there was about 20-30 I used. putting two words together to buy a URL, SleazyDream just sounded good so i ran with it. as for GFY - it's my main site name.

I was looking around for a short name and I had a cat called Izzy so I was going to use that, but the name was taken, so I added 'new' to the end for quickness.
Then I liked the play on words so I left it like that.

when i got to AWEmpire, my real name was already taken as a nickname by a colleague of the same name so i got to cook up a new one. as a tribute to Calvin & Hobbes, i picked "calvin". then "awe" is obvious.

i've been recording hip-hop music since i was in college. back then one of my aka's was Aeon Flex (after Aeon Flux). When I got into the adult business I needed an alias so I just said "Flexx" when asked. Then I found out there was a gay performer whose name was 'Flexxx' or something, so I stuck the 'Aeon' at the end of mine.
