I half agree with you.

The reason I wouldn't fully agree is because these companies were obiously breaking the law.

PartyPoker.com and many others are still alive and well because they follow rules or use proper practice.

When I was first starting out online I was looking into poker/gambling as a niche to look into and maybe build something in. And the first thing I noticed before any other was "Do Not Bank with the US" Simple, they always suggested using Gibraltar/Cyprus/other offshore locations.

Don't use US hosting was another one. As for using a .com domain that wasn't an issue from what I had seen. If the US had full control of the .com domains then sites like tradetang.com would be taken offline instantly (95% of the stuff sold there is illegal/copied)

Don't use hosting in another country where the DC is owqned by a US company ( like: we have a DC in Amsterdam, or Canada ... but are an american company ) .

Also, try as possible to use offshore registrars ( like in France, Spain, etc... ) . Again, not an affilate , but an actual registrar like http://www.gandi.net/ ( Their catch line is " no bs " ...lol )

I just won about $250 on pokersrs in a sit n go, never even realised this shit was going on. It's pretty fucked up is this is legit. All the poker pros play online poker these days.
