Yeah, it's a genuine auction. It's quite a cool buy if you have somewhere to put it, and have the money lying around. I don't know what the minimum or recommended price would be, but I think the same site recently sold another aircraft carrier for 2 million GBP (about $3 million). Apparently they rejected a bid of 5 million GBP from someone in China because they were worried it would be put into service by the Chinese Navy. :upsidedow

Proposals for it include turning it into a commercial heliport, a base for security personnel during the London Olympics, or a school and nightclub.

I have a little side interest in collecting 50+ year old maps, so yeah, they're used. :thumbsup

I bought some used enterprise/carrier grade electronic equipment for $100, it was worth about 50X that a few years ago.

True. It's a great ship and it would be a shame if ends up as scrap like the previous one they sold.

It's a bit like nuclear bunkers that were sold after the cold war ended and were converted into houses or nightclubs or, in at least one case, a webhost - except with this you're not tied to one location. Could even be a 'seastead'.

SomeCreep 05-11-2011 11:35 PM

sure, if the price is right
