Yes, a very expensive trip.

I just bought the Kindle edition of the series.

29 bucks on amazon.

Wow, I realized reading the thread that this show is from a book I read (the second book of the set) and LOVED, I'll definitely have to check into whether I can get this show or not ... someone keep me posted if it ends up on Netflix!!!

Nicky 06-21-2011 11:22 AM

I'm buying the books too.

I hope they use some CGI for the direwolves next season... they were sooooooooo tiny in the first season

that's what i thought too. Daeynery's said "that's not why they were given to me" when she was urged to sell the dragons eggs. she knew what she doing. i'm her for every show....i called it. so pissed i had to kill my hotass husband :(

They went into the tent when they weren't supposed to and were warned to stay out. Can't remember for sure but I think that was why she ended up losing her son. i.e. the demons involved with saving Drogo "took" her son as well.

hmmmm... There could be more to it though given it wasn't normal.. She's "special" being one of Dragons.. Being like that, it could also be that she can't breed unless it's with one of her kind.. There was an offhand comment at one point I think where the Queen had told Ned that the old royalty (the line of the Dragons, Daenerys' ancestors) had bred within their own family to keep the blood lines strong. Could actually have been more than that.

Thank you.

I have no doubt that reading the books will shed further light on all that.

Is that the set of the first 4? I saw that, and to add on the 5th book it brings the price to something like $55 CAN. I'll have to see if there's a Fedex or UPS option for shipping, because like I said Canada Post just isn't up to it right now.

If your cable company gives you access to http://hbogo.com/ you can stream every episode, as well as every episode of every other HBO series in their history. It's a fucking kick ass website...

Great site.

As for me I'm with Shaw Cable, they have a free section in their Video On Demand area, and in there there's a section for Movie Central, and in THERE is every episode of S1 of Game of Thrones.

I think I'll watch all of them through one more time while I wait for the books to arrive. :D

Rereading my books now...no way I can have read them all in time but oh well...I do need to reread them to be sure where the story is at (since it's been a few years since I read them).

The series is awesome and people...don't give up because Sean Bean is dead, in the grand scheme of things he couldn't survive...he would undermine the stories of his children (Robb, Jon).

Agreed, not on knowledge from the books, just on gut feeling based on what I've seen so far in S1.

I do agree with anyone saying it did seem a bit soon for his char to get cut off. (not to mention his head) The guy was made for roles, series, and movies like this.

Spartacus is a great series too. I found the overall plot a bit thin at times, and all the swearing with "fuck this" and "fuck" that going on a bit gratuitous. (wasn't the word fuck first used something like a thousand or 1200 years AFTER the time of Spartacus/Ceasar etc?). But all in all it's great and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more of it.

Game of Thrones, at least so far, seems to be in a class all it's own though. If they keep going the way they are with it, it will be forever compared and likened to the calibre of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Wouldn't blame anyone a bit for doing so either. As much as I liked LOTR I have to say I am immensely enjoying GOT nearly as much so far.

Spartacus and Game of Thrones are both great in their own ways -- but they're really two different tier shows.

Question to anyone that's red the books - Is season 1 close enough to the books so I can start reading book 2 without having to read 1? I am reading it now and I'm almost where the second episode stopped and it's almost identical from dialogue to characters, etc. They did an excellent job casting this series. I am so hooked.............

I haven't read the books yet. I am waiting until he finishes the full series before starting it. However, I have a friend that has read them. He said the TV series followed the storyline of the books faithfully, but that you miss a ton of detail and back story. So I think you could start reading book two and not be too lost, but you would likely be missing a bunch of the story as well.

You should read the book to get the deeper plot lines and details etc.

I'm about 3/4 through the first book. It seems close enough, I don't think you'll miss much. There seems to be a great deal more description in be book, especially with regard to the Dothraki and the Vale and the back story.

Yeah I was afraid of that, I just can't wait to see what happens in book 2 since the series set the ground work for a shit storm coming. But you are right, unless the series had a narrator they couldn't really give you 100%.

I'm eager to get to the second book too, but having watched the show then read the book. It's bringing so much more to light and making it that much more enjoyable, even though I know what's going to happen.

CDSmith 08-05-2011 03:24 PM

I just got the first 4 books delivered to me a few weeks ago. Haven't started reading them yet but I'm soon going to read book 1.... and that's it. I don't think I'll read book 2 until after next spring when season 2 of the series is out on HBO and I've watched it.

Looking forward to getting into that first book though.

Game of Thrones is the best series since Deadwood. Sparticus is a good series but not in the same class.

About a quarter of the way through book 2 now and all I can say is WOW.

If season 2 of the series is anything close to this book it's going to blow all of our minds completely.
