and i doubt anyone who organizes a tradeshow can deny entry or participation to the ICM people. At the end they don't do anything illegal, unlike many other people in this industry who go to every tradeshow. :2 cents:

and before anyone thinks i'd approve .xxx - just ask them, i have been annoying them with uncomfortable questions at their presentations in Vienna and Mallorca in person - not just bitching on message boards.

Must we make new rules for the Dutch Webmaster Meeting?

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/33/57...8088cabc26.jpg

That way we can protect portrait rights of the visitors so their pictures won't be used to promote .xxx domains. JFK is the official photographer of the Dutch Webmaster Meeting and has a permit to make pictures :)

Offcourse you can refuse people coming. I did that with one person on the show. But that's cause she was realy realy crazy.

And yes, MaDalton was annoying them in Mallorca :-)

its a show being run by a private business. i'm sure they reseve the right to refuse to do business or allow entry to anyone they want.

but where do you draw the line? they run a legal business even if many of us don't like it.

but i also don't like people who do coke and other drugs, still there are many at every show

i also don't like billing companies who bill for sites with stolen content or help doing hidden cross sells - still they are at every show throwing parties and everyone is hanging out with them.

or content producer who talk models into fucking them for more jobs/money etc

or program owner who previously stole from affiliates

who's allowed to come and who's not?

We all draw our own lines...

Where your morals tell you.

I wouldn't ever take money from them, no matter what.

Sure, it's legal. So are lots of things I wouldn't work on.

Vendzilla 06-22-2011 07:43 AM

Wait, so the ICM registry needs a photography there to capture the blank expression on their faces when asked what the benefits of XXX is?

I'm not blaming YNOT for anything. I know they've been fighting the ICM and the .xxx tld.

I was making a general statement that just because what some company does is legal, it does not mean that you have to like it, approve it, do business with them, allow them on your property, allow them to visit an event you organize etc.

The fact that they are a legal business is irrelevant imho.

ok, we might disagree on the legal business thing (because i'd rather not let those in with illegal businesses) - but you're right about YNOT. and they are providing a civilized discussion about this topic, not some lynch mob mentality. And boycotting them because of that would not be fair.

Yeah, just give him the views he wants/needs. I guess Munki will never attend another adult trade show. Too bad.

I'm surprised at this point that Alienq, Arsewithclass, Paul Markham, Chris 3.0 and this idiot haven't teamed up together to form a porn industry dream team. Just seems to be the logical move.

That's a pretty funny pic...

We'll shoot for half the NALEM fee for anyone other than .xxx - then its TRIPLE.

Of course by that time, with the Lobbying IFFOR and ICM will be pushing in Washington, we will be all forced to move our sites to .xxx to "Protect the children". But that might not happen. But we are still stuck with the situation that .xxx can be blocked from country down to local provider level.

So...

i sell ads, so will i not sell to those with .xxx domains...?
if .xxx is blocked your ads will not be seen by everyone who clicks through.

what about when hosted galleries start using .xxx ...? will i list them...?
Most likely the traffic will never get to those galleries.

will i trade traffic with a site that lists .xxx galleries...?
why, when it's a built in shave for anyone who uses .xxx They wont' need to send you 1 for 1 anymore.

what about all the other tgps and the tubes...what will they do...?
Watch the traffic go down.

It's not really too hard to see where this is all going.

Is this still a concern?

With the articles out about people being able to purchase their own tld extension, I don't see how they will be able to force anyone to do anything. With the chances of people paying for a .sex, .porn etc in the near future, I don't think they will be able to accomplish this.

Not saying anything here other than I don't think we will be forced to use .xxx domains.

What if ICM gets .sex and .porn? What if they have already approached ICANN about this and agreed to pay a hefty licence fee, over and above the standard amount?

Tasty1 06-22-2011 10:39 AM

What if somebody has a trademark on "xxx" and now starts proceeding?
There will be new extensions for trademarked brands, so this could be confusion for costumers.

davecummings 06-22-2011 11:40 AM

I credit YNOT with raising-the-bar for shows, especially with very meaningful seminars and business/networking opportunities. AND, even the other aspects (facilities, parties, etc have been a model for others---IMO, other shows then copied YNOT).

Thanks YNOT:-)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right now, I don't know of any other told ie .sex .porn etc that have a lobbyist in Washington like .xxx does. This has and always be a concern.

Time will tell. But if there's anything I know about this industry, there will always be a few wiling to fuck everyone else to make more money.

Herd 06-22-2011 01:53 PM

Hopefully we'll get lots of answers about ICM and their business practices at this event. Especially about IFFOR.

Would be a real bummer if it turns out to be a .XXX timeshare shindig. With sales reps running around trying to convince us to join the new tld "because its such a game changer".

If you know they're taking a picture of you, just turn away. If everyone at the show does the same, then their pictures will be worthless.

So you're admitting you would do business with ICM Registry / .XXX and backstab the industry if the price was right for you. :321GFY

rowan 06-22-2011 05:02 PM

Pity this got moved to announcements - it means most people will miss it. I figured it had been quietly deleted.

Even though the OP is blatant spam I consider any ICM involvement at the moment an extremely important issue, and those replying in this thread obviously do too. The discussion is more important than the fact it was originally spam. I call on the mod who moved this to place it back into the main forum.

fris 06-23-2011 05:11 AM
