Seriously though I started this thread because I'm making a Survival website and was curious as to what people are investing their money in to hedge against the world going to shit. I'm still on the fence with gold and silver. I gotta write articles for this site and still I have no idea what one can invest in financially. Sure food ammo etc but those are for surviving in a Mad Max world. I"m looking for investment ideas to hedge against hyper inflation, things like that. I would think because hyper inflation would make fuel prices go thru the roof that in turn would affect the prices of just about everything. Question is what can you invest in NOW that would hedge that and if nothing happens still get your money back at the minimum.

Food? Maybe. Shelf life is a big issue. If nothing happens and food prices stay low in 4 years who would want to buy your dehydrated food supply? nobody

Solar cells? Maybe. Problem with those is that as they advance the price goes down. 5 years ago $10 per watt was great. Today $3 per watt is good.

If the US sees hyperinflation, you will be glad you did pick up some precious metals. Look at what many countries are doing right now, they are buying gold by the tonnes. Still, even as it goes up, they are buying it. They obviously have smarter people than all of us having them buy up as much as they can. Even the 3rd world rice bowl I live in just bought another 30 tonnes a few days ago to add to their 100 tonne stockpile. The USD is living on borrowed time and everyone knows it.

Food... learn about food storage and how to rotate it. Grains can last a very, very long time. New MRE's can last 5 or so years, based on the temp you keep them in, but some guys still eat them at 10 years. But the key to food storage with food that does expire, is rotation. But don't forget to have a water supply. If you can, drill your own well.

The smartest thing you can do is get as much out of the USD as you can, and leave.

I am not preparing...as I am well prepared for virtually any event...and have been for several years. In theory I and my dog can live for an indefinite period of time.

Some people feel if they have guns they don't have to store food, that they can just take it from others.

Well I picked one up today. Came with a 4 round clip. Not sure if I'm gonna buy a drum or not, they look pretty bulky. Two of the twelve round ones might work out better for me. Got home and right away I shot off 2 clips in the back yard. Great feel and recoil was less than I expected. I think I will make it my "yard" defense gun, if I hear or see anyone on the property I'll take it out and see what's up. It's a little too big and bulky for home interior defense. I think I will keep my AR15 pup for that job.

i gotta agree here. move to a place where people are more adapted to basic survival and you won't have to worry about chaos ensuing when gas goes up to $20/gallon. learn to get by on red beans and rice, the joys of playing dominoes on the beach all day, drinking out of coconuts, and sportfucking big booty chicas for recreation. where i live the power goes out at least once every 12hrs. all good homes here have power inversers linked to a cluster of marine deep cycle batteries that run everything in the home flawlessly for days. even the poorest homes have 50 gallons of fresh purified bottled water on tap at all times because nobody drinks the tap water, not to mention there are free mangos and other assorted fruits falling on the ground everywhere. it takes a bit of adjustment to get out of the US lifestyle but the tradeoff is well worth it, not to mention the people are just happy to be alive most of the time. i think my ol' buddy qon from onprobation.com has been in thailand since the late 90's and has no plans on returning

I think its too early to worry about this.

Governments dont have the money to fix the problems. However, what they do have is the ability to drag it out over a very extended period of time, probably at least a decade if not decades.

The US has the resources to be self-sufficient. The whole importing of just about everything is a new phenomena.

If worse becomes worst we will rape what we need from other countries until we are back to doing everything in-house.

BTW I would invest in some good fishing gear, I live on a small island, and I think chances of survival are a lot better here when TSHTF, fewer people means less chaos, catch some fish daily, turn salt water into fresh water and relax a little on the beach...Sounds pretty good right? Can't wait...
