Given the fact that you are relatively new around here and do infact have rights to most of the content on your website, I found it hard to believe you would knowingly steal content for one section of your website and leave yourself open to legal consequences.

My recommendation, turn it into a user submitted website. And read up on DMCA

GGurls 08-28-2011 01:39 AM

hmmm? okay... actually then we've been on the right track... ours is user submitted too (the gossip section) and I actually have joined affiliate programs for models who I haven't gotten permission from... The modeling section I've gotten permission from every single one of them AND their photographer (if we didn't do it ourselves)... But for the main part, the gossip section doesn't have watermarks on any pictures

But once again you just gave me some ideas and some stuff I'll look out for... now this is the reason I've join.. thanks again Pseudo....

Signing up isn't enough (obviously), just to be clear, you still need to place a link somewhere in the post to their official website. Or a banner. Or something. For example, you can keep up that sarah peachez post if you added a link to her site in there somewhere, throw in your affiliate code and it's another source of revenue.

If youre going to mix that section with affiliate (self submitted content) with user submitted content, i'd just stay away from watermarking all the content in that section. Plus theres really no need.

no I agree, that's what we did... for models in that section we haven't gotten permission from (it's VERY few) we actually have a link to their website, twitter etc and their is NO watermark on it... I believe one model was that chick with the biggest tits in the world.. (I can't remember her name) but there are no logos on it and it's linked to her site...

That section now is almost 100% user submitted... even the cell phone pictures... I also agree on the no watermark in that section too...

I want to add that I am no expert when it comes to DMCA but I only assume you need some form of contact for reporting infringements. I did a quick scan and didn't see anything of the sort but to be honest, i didn't look too hard. This is why I suggest reading up so that you know 100% that you are protected by the safe harbor of the DMCA

GGurls 08-28-2011 02:13 AM

A contact email should be on the front... if not it's going up right now.. also i should make a DMCA link... see? this is why I like you!

Not hostile, just tired of people using the hard work of others for personal gain.

My dude, I work extremely hard too and even though I don't have to, I assure you I don't steal anybody's work.. I'm a photographer myself and hate to see my work stolen.. I ALWAYS credit people work... ALWAYS... hell my site is the reason why so many photographers, models and other sites get recognition!

The picture that started this thread was NOT done to act as though I did it... I was actually just complimenting the girls' ass... it had our watermark on it (done by a staff member) and when it was brought to my attention I corrected the action... I'm not a thief under any circumstances...

you shouldn't be watermarking material unless you own the rights or were given permission, no question. Innocent or not it should be a no-brainer, once you watermarked it you acknowledge you have seen it (doesn't matter who actually watermarked it, your company name is on it) so if it is user submitted it could be mis-construde by other webmasters and affiliates.

You have a fantastic fresh looking site and clearly work hard on it, just be careful on these kind of technicalities, it could get you a bad rep before you know it and could be undeserved.

You see this L-Pink? This is a response... now how could I get mad at that? Now I'll listen to this advise and actually use it...

I don't know why people don't realize that other people can simply make mistakes?

Putting you logo on content you don't own or have a license for is the result of a) being an idiot or b) running a shady business. For the record you appear to be pretty smart.

It's because we've seen other sites do it like MediaTakeOut, I know I know, that doesn't make it right but we didn't know... and thanks for the compliment... I knew you were alright ;)

damn, I missed the pic!

People should relax a little. Unlike a lot of other companies here - *cough* media revenue *cough* he kept replying, admitted he was wrong and fixed the situation. Maybe this is sad because I expect so little from people on this board now.

Every webmaster here has made mistakes along the way. This guy seems to be trying to do the right thing, shoots great content and listens to critiques when they are constructive. Also, he admits when he is wrong. You don't see a lot of that going on around here anymore.
