I live in a state with a lot of black people,

from my own experience.. 4 out of 5 "dick driving movies" are done by black people.

It's sad that if you drive a vehicle that's moderately nicer than most people's, you'll be having your car damaged ASAP. I've come to understand that means if they're driving a beater, you better be driving a beater... or you will be, one way or another.

Driving a nice car in the city is a bad idea no matter what the neighborhood is like. If it doesn't get broken into then your bumpers are gonna get destroyed from all the parallel parking in the city, or kids are gonna be wacking it constantly playing hockey or stickball. At least that's how it is on the east coast, maybe it's different out in Cali with everything more spread out. If you want to keep your car spotless you gotta move to the suburbs.

Agreed. Can't wait to get back to the suburbs. But there are areas around Oakland that are pretty nice, where you don't have to worry about things like this happening.

For instance, a neighborhood like this wouldn't pose any risk similar to what I'm talking about:

The area is 40th Ave and San Pablo in Emeryville. Check it out on Google Maps and let me know what you think. Then pull up the crime map.

Then come back, and make your assessment. Then let's bring your car here and see if the way you operate it (parked) gets you a dent in your hood. I bet the chances will be similar.

Then... just for the sake of humor, let's move your car to Palo Alto and see if the way you operate it there (parked) gets you a dent in the hood. My guess is that it won't.

Anyway... :321GFY

Its your hood, you make the call. You said the neighborhood was relatively safe, not me.

If you have people hassling you in bad areas and hassling you in good areas- based on what you said- I made the suggestion maybe its not the neighborhood but the driver.

Don't hate, :321GFY I'm just looking at what these 2 things have in common.

It sounds like you're making a reference to a thread I posted a few weeks ago where I question the validity of speed limits on high-speed multi-lane thoroughfares. It seems to me you're making the assumption that I'm creating chaos and wreaking havoc on the streets, tormenting the locals and pissing everyone off with a teenage-like mentality. Maybe you think doing lawn-jobs or running down mothers pushing strollers through crosswalks is a sport I partake in.

Let me clarify my stance; Driving without speed limits does not imply driving like a fucking douche, irresponsibly, driving unsafely, or driving in an any matter other than reasonably and prudently. People are not following me home and throwing bottles at my vehicle because of however you imagine me engaging on public roadways. But I had a chuckle considering what may be going through your imaginative mind.

The area that I live in is a "transitional neighborhood." One in which I feel safe enough to live in, but one in which is not completely insulated from it's share of crime. In affluent areas I've never had anyone damage my car.

ShellyCrash 09-13-2011 02:28 PM

You're putting way to much thought into this. I don't really pay that much attention to GFY to remember a post where you talked about the validity of speed limits from weeks ago.

I'm not saying it's your fault, just merely suggesting that if people frequently take out agression on your vehicle wherever you go you might want to consider the possiblity that it might be a refletion or a reaction to your style of driving. That is all.

This is pure comedy. I never said people are "frequently" taking out their aggression on my vehicle "wherever I go". You must be great at the game of telephone.

I'm just trying to understand what you're saying. So you DON'T live in the ghetto, but you're car still got smashed. You think that people in the ghetto go around smashing up expensive cars but don't think the ghetto followed you home because of your bad driving.

Just curious, if you don't live in the ghetto, what do you think happened? Why was your car targeted? Just trying to sift through the mixed messages.

Ok Shelly.

I think I live in an area where unemployment is very high. Animosity is even higher. Displays of affluence are seen as taboo. When you're on the road, people will glare at you. Some people will flip you off. Some people will yell things like "douche". All you have to do is have your windows down. Nice cars are seen as the luxuries of rich people, and rich people are seen as the reason why people don't have jobs. The perception is that rich people caused the economic collapse, and now we're sipping our fine alcohols while smoking Cuban cigars and living in the lap of luxury. We don't have to work hard, and everything we have has been given to us on a silver platter.

The attitude is "Us against them".

They see a Porsche sitting on the street and they think; "I'm here eatin' out of a fuckin' trash can, I just lost my home, I can't afford to pay my rent, and this motha' fukka thinks he's all that and a bag of potato chips with that flashy car... he just tryin' to make all us look bad. They's only one way anyone can afford a car like that, and dat's by lyin' cheatin' and stealin'. And if I can't buy a car like that... I ain't gonna let nobody have a car like that without it havin' my lil signature on the side... I'm gonna teach that motha fukka a lesson about greed... I'm gonna fuck that car up..."

Honestly, I have no idea why it was targeted. :2 cents: All I can do is put up a better security camera.

You clearly bring this upon yourself, self fulfilling prophecy. Sad that you can not blend. The type of vehicle you drive has a lot less to do with anything than your attitude.

Good luck in that style of life.

I go anywhere anytime and keep it real, people love that and I love them.

You're hilarious, Alias. How much interaction do you think I have with people?

alias 09-13-2011 03:51 PM

Wouldn't hurt to make some friends in the area, could work wonders. Leave your preconceptions at the door, eat some local food, chill. That's what I'd do.

My girlfriend works in downtown Oakland. Sometimes I'll meet her for lunch, or pick her up from work, etc. Usually I take San Pablo Ave which is kinda like the main artery of Oakland... Often I'll pass around 10 hookers and see people smoking crack and tweaking on the sidewalks...

It gets annoying when one of the crackheads thinks it's reasonable to test your brakes as he stumbles across the road, and sometimes just walks down the middle of a lane... not really caring about the fact that he nearly got ran over...

Good entertainment. Just a completely different world, I guess.

alias 09-13-2011 04:12 PM

Try to be an objective 3rd party for a moment. Reading the above quote, has it really never crossed your mind that your driving or attitude on the road might in some way be a factor here? :helpme

Its really not normal for people to flip you off or yell douche at someone completely unprovoked solely based on the make and model of car you are driving. Usually your car alone won't do it, unless you have like a fire extinguisher on the pillar post, an obnoxious after market spoiler and / or personalized plates.

I don't think there's anything really spectacular going on, Shelly. I'm a pretty normal dude and I live a pretty normal life.

I don't like the people who live in the ghetto, and I've ranted about some a-hole that put a dent in my hood. I don't think it can be broken down much further. :)

If you want to know more about what I'm talking about, there's a few threads on a Lamborghini forum talking about parking one of their cars in a parking lot in Berkeley and ending up with dents in the hood, roof, crow bar marks on the door handles, broken windshield, etc. And that's not my car, either... so apparently there are other people out there that this can happen to. :)

And there's countless other forum posts on other auto enthusiast (Porsche, Audi, BMW, Merc) forums talking about people who have also vandalized their cars for no apparent reason. You can't say it's because all the owners of these vehicles must somehow rub people wrong...

People like this do exist...

Here's another one...

And another one...

And here's another interesting story from the other day...

You think theses people's "attitudes" just inspires this kind of behavior from society? Yeah right...

Here's a quote:

Quote:

I've had my 2001 diablo parked in a private lot in berkeley ca for 4 nights.
in 4 nights I've had:
footprints on the engine cover and roof, cracked windshield, pry marks on the passenger side, pry marks on drivers door hinge area, jimmied door handles and a swift kick to the drivers door to the point of severe damage.

What kind of car do you drive?

shimmy2 09-13-2011 06:13 PM

dont matter what kinda car it is, the bay area destroys ALL cars. the hills and traffic jams burn through clutches like crazy. when i visit cali the first thing i do is buy a bicycle and a bart ticket. problem solved
