Sunrise 3 is funny; if you have a mainstream trademark and don't want it to be used for porn, you can pay us and we make sure nobody will register it as an .xxx . Now if someone would register sony.xxx , Sony would sue that person. But sueing is more expensive than paying for sunrise 3 so a lot of companies are going through the sunrise 3 procedure probably, basically because they're getting blackmailed.

Perhaps, but we are not fools and have substantial assets to protect.

The misnomer of "blackmailing" as you call it should be more properly called "legal extortion" in its most extreme connotation.

In the final analysis -- the cost of a defensive registration to us is trivial. However, we will never agree to some NGO (non governmental organization) dictating to us on our content or general business practices that are within the laws of the international venue in which we operate.

Yup I agree with you on everything, just wondering where this will go, then on the other hand, xxx is probably going to be the last TLD extension, I think they covered everything by now. That's why I decided to bite the bullet as well. I will reconsider the 12 domains though after reading what OP came up with in this thread. Maybe I'll limit to 4 and for the remaining 8 I will wait and try to get them after the landrush. I don't care that much about the money but I prefer to avoid getting screwed. I can get quite emotional about things like that, even if it's only about $100 and I want to be smiling with x-mas, not crying :).

Boycott = choking out the financial means to operate. If this adult industry was wise, there would be no sites registered besides sony.xxx. :1orglaugh How are they going to operate with only a few mainstream names being registered and the ENTIRE adult industry boycotting them? Don't even offer a penny... choke the life out of their scam.

It is a scam, it does violate law in our country at least, there are issues here such as third line forcing, unconscionable conduct and misleading and deceptive conduct.

ICM better not fuck with us because I have the tenacity of a mule.

That's what I decided as well... I followed their process and got fucked like everyone else, now I'll just let a judge handle it when one of my domains I 'pre-registered' goes online for some other company.

Tjeezers 09-28-2011 01:17 PM

Wow, after reading GFY for years, I did not even logged on to my domain manager in the last years, neither do I care about .xxx cause we all kind of agree it is a scam and a way to extort money out of our pockets. Thank you for being a live example... Pls do not forget to bump this every day, so you can contribute on a more vital way to GFY as you overlooked the wise threads that would have saved you money if you even cared about it a little to begin with.

Here's the thing, for all the geniuses saying 'ignore it'. First off, you're the same geniuses saying ignore tube sites back in the day. Second, with the current condition of the Republican party, it's absolutely NOT out of the question that some legislator will seize on internet porn as his personal issue, and ram thru some kind of law requiring all porn to be on it's own easily quarantined tld. Is it LIKELY? No, odds are probably against it happening. Is it IMPOSSIBLE? Not even close to impossible.

So.... fuck Lawley. He's a scamming fuck, whatever. It doesn't matter. The idea is to protect your interests against all possible threats. However, with the way that they're handling the registration process, this can't be done even if you do try to play ball with them. If there are any successful lawsuits against ICM, that's what they're going to stem from.

How? tons of mainstream domainers / speculators will buy the domains hoping to flip them for a profit.

This genius never said to ignore tube sites, I made fun of the people who were ignoring them or thought they would just fade away. Especially tgp site owners. However, I am telling people to ignore .xxx and obviously even if you don't ignore it you still get screwed.

Correct, it's not impossible for some law to be passed in the US making us use .xxx domains to display nudity. It depends who is in office. If someone like Michele Bachmann gets in i think their is a chance of something like that happening. Again all depends on who is elected. And if someone like that gets elected we could have even bigger problems then .xxx.

However if you have a trademark on your domain then even if you ignore .xxx and it becomes mandated one day then you will have legal recourse to get the .xxx for your trademark. Trademarks are what is most important here. Everyone with a high quality domain built around and critical to their business needs to trademark their domain.

FUCK LAWLEY!!!

amateurcanada 09-28-2011 09:34 PM

Bottom line, they sent an email USING MY NAME AND COMPANY WITHOUT MY PERMISSION to garner favorability to attain the useage of the .xxx tld. If they do this? Why would a cent goto them. I am so sorry to hear about this frustration.

Funny, I see a pizza and an ice cold beer in my future. :thumbsup
Exactly why do you think you see this in my future? Freedom of speech and saying boycott .xxx is bad? Well ummm... too bad.

BOYCOTT .xxx

And they are stupid. None of them paid attention to US law regarding cyber-squating? Is this my fault in any way? texaco.xxx is worthless. cnn.xxx ...I am just not seeing the market value for it... yet. :1orglaugh In fact, the only future I can see for it now is in a courtroom where a judge is going to say it violates the intellectual property rights of CNN. The only place the domain holds any value (and not much at that) is in adult. HMN is branded. Any dummy who thinks he will make even one penny from us by registering hotmanilanights.xxx is in for a rude awakening when he offers it to us for sale. If he tries to use it to sell asian porn, I will ram a law suit so far down his throat it will choke him. If he tries to use it to go live with any web presence at all, well I have a law firm in Redwood City California that handles nothing but IP cases... all 12 floors of its firm ready to make him spend a lot of money for nothing in the end other than defeat. The intellectual property is reserved and protected. I am surprised that it has not been brought up already the fact that cyber-squating on domain names has already been deemed illegal. It's the same thing.
