RIP Todd

He were one of those guys that never said a bad word about anyone, the voice of reason, the down to earth guy.

He were one of those people when he posted I read and followed his advice.
He died way to young and my thoughts are with his family. What Tony posted doesn't surprise me one bit I had the pleasure of buying a gift for someone WAY back and if we can do something similar I will love to be part of it in Todd's memory.

BlackCrayon 10-19-2011 07:56 AM

wow, he was so young. i didn't know him beyond posts here but he seemed like a good guy who cared about his family and business. i hope his family has enough knowledge to keep a hold of some of his business assets.

Sid70 10-19-2011 08:05 AM

You never expect things like that.
R.I.P. Todd

Very sad news, and so young too.

JustJ 10-19-2011 08:21 AM

Definetly a good guy. I remember when I had only been in the industry a couple years and did the angel tree. We definetly should bring it back.

DK 10-19-2011 08:24 AM

kristin 10-19-2011 08:34 AM

I never met him but remember his posts. Very young, looks like he was sick for awhile and based on the donations either heart or diabetes or combo thereof. Very sad to see someone pass at such a young age. May you rest in peace, Todd.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-19-2011 08:49 AM

An industry pioneer, and good and generous family man has passed - my deepest condolences to Todd's family and friends...

A brief bio:

Quote:

Mr. Ostrer has been an entrepreneur virtually all of his life and exclusively on the Internet since commerce on the internet started. He is considered by many to be a pioneer in the industry. He served in the Army from 1986 to 1989.

Once out of the military he was briefly a forest firefighter in the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States. He has always been into computers since the first PC and turned his skills and knowledge to the Internet and Online Services to make his living, particularly in the Adult Online Services Industry and retail sales.

From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Ostrer started the company Rose City Online, Inc. Originally a BBS that served millions of adult pictures to a paid membership consumer base and eventually turned into one of the first ISP's in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area. He also had one of the largest Internet retail stores for adult cd's with "xxxcd.com" doing retail sales of adult cd's and shipping them all over the world.

From 1994 to 1997, Mr. Ostrer was one of the first to start Internet/Web based Adult Online Services with "Adults.com" among many others. He was also one of the first to automate his fee based adult online services to consumer's with automatic signup, real-time online credit card charging and password access.

From 1997, Mr. Ostrer helped start VTR, Inc. and ventured heavy into retail sales of adult sex toys on the World Wide Web with "sextoyworld.com" and "safesexmall.com". He has setup many retail stores on the net and runs several other stores for other companies. He has extensive knowledge of shopping cart software, merchant accounts and marketing strategies for use on the Internet.

From 1999, Mr. Ostrer started "WebInc.com", providing website development and original artwork to mainstream and adult business professionals. His vision is to provide a "One-Stop Shopping" website where business to business (B2B) professionals can find anything and everything they need to start, maintain, expand or support their online ventures, services and retail stores.
Way too young - RIP STK...

R.I.P Sad news :(

Sarah_Jayne 10-19-2011 09:22 AM

My heart aches. It fully aches. As many of you know, I used to be Sarah_Webinc. Todd, purely and simply, gave me my break in this industry. He was my boss for over four years but really he was a friend and a mentor.

When my husband died, Todd was my guardian angel.

I met my best friend because Todd sent me to my first industry show.

After I left Webinc, Todd followed my career as if he was my personal cheerleader. He is right there in the thread I made last month about joining Fleshlight. As ever he was bigging me up and going out of his way to make me feel good about myself.

My heart goes out to his wife and his beautiful kids.

I am forever going to miss my mentor.

Thank you Todd.

Yes please.. I will do whatever needs to be involved with helping with that.

SykkBoy 10-19-2011 09:32 AM

I'm truly speechless...
Todd was such a great guy. In an industry full of smoke, mirrors and bullshit, he was one of the very rare straight shooter/"what you see is what you get" type of guys.

I remember about once a year receiving one of his packages in the mail.

We also had a great dinner at the Bellagio several years ago just shooting the shit about the biz, politics, family, etc. We must have sat there chatting for 3 hours and could have easily chatted for 3 more.

I can honestly say I'm an STK fanboy. He was one of the few people I really looked up to in this business.

Truly a great guy.
RIP Todd

He was just as cool in person as he was on the boards. I hate that I haven't been in touch with him in a few years and wish we had known what was going on. However, it's like Todd not to want folks to worry about him. He worshiped his daughters and I loved hearing him talk about them.

RIP and Godspeed.

Peaches..you should hit me up. We haven't spoken in far too long and this stuff reminds me you should always keep in touch with those you like and respect.

R.I.P Todd.

Todd was a good guy, kind hearted and wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed in. I've only spoken to him a few times in recent years, but every time he was in good spirits and it seemed like no time was lost.

Rest in Peace old friend.

Brad Mitchell 10-19-2011 10:20 AM

Todd was a kind and honest entrepreneur. May he rest in peace, his family and friends will be in our prayers. I remember doing business with him back at Webinc and have a fond memory of his hospitality at one of the first shows that Melissa and I went to.

Brad

Mojo 10-19-2011 10:43 AM

Oh man, sad news.

Great story T.

I have a funny business story about Todd...

I (anonymously) contacted a guy about buying his high value domain that wasn't up for sale.

He and I have brutal, BRUTAL, negotiations back and forth over the price. We go on for 2 weeks arguing every angle and we finally agree on a price.

When he sends the invoice I discover that Todd's actually the domain owner, and Todd discovers I'm the buyer.

He calls me and goes "Dude, why didn't you tell me it was you? I would have sold it to you for $5 grand less and we'd have done the deal in like 5 minutes." and I said "Dude, why didn't you tell me it was you? I would have bought it from you for $5 grand more and done the deal in like 5 minutes."

One of the good guys. RIP.
