It says "Women" need to get guns, "women" should walk in groups and purchase guns, etc. It doesn't say "some women", it simply says women. That says to me that it's probably a safe inference he means all women should carry.

But relax your bad self, I actually support the notion that women be allowed to do something proactive to afford themselves some measure of protection. Anyone paying even remote attention to the news for any length of time knows there are a lot of abusers, molesters, and would-be rapists out there, many of them getting away with that and a lot more. No, a car is a useful item that is usually used several times a week. It is a transportation machine. A gun is not useful on a daily basis. It's a 'just in case' item. It's also meant to kill people. a car's first purpose is not to kill people.

Interestingly enough, I use guns 5 to 7 days a week and have yet to kill anybody.

Yes, a gun is a tool. But what happens when you use a gun properly is much different from what happens if you use a cheese grater for its main purpose. A hammer is a useful tool, but I don't see many people who feel the need to carry one on their person everywhere they go.

I'm confused. If you would not want a gun in your home and don't believe in carrying one, exactly what is it you are practicing for?

I'm not a fan of "under the pillow" at all, but are you not "paranoid" enough to have a smoke alarm? Most likely you'll never NEED your smoke alarm, but when you need it you really need it. Also for me at least knowing that I have three properly working smoke alarms in the house gives me peace of mind - just in case. It's the same with my pistol. I'll probably not need it any time soon, but I like knowing that I can protect my family, just in case.

I did have one occurence so far when several thugs were trying to break in the house. One got his head in and found himself starting down the twin barrels of a shotgun. They all left pretty quick. Aside from that one occurence where I actually had to present a weapon, there have been a few instances where someone acted like they MIGHT have committed an assault until I told them to back off in such a way that it was clear that they had better do so. In one case the drink perpretrator had a knife and was coming after my brother. Knowing that I sometimes carry a pistol, they settled down when I commanded them to do so. I don't know how those would have turned out had I been unarmed.

What stood out about this thread was the common thought that someone doesn't want to own a gun because they don't want to "live that way".

Never forget, you can live in the best neighborhood, never go to a "bad area", but you may run into someone who decided to come to your "good neighborhood" to do harm to some "good people" he saw as an "easy target". Is it likely? No. If it happens, and you can't meet his level of force, that three to thirty minute wait for the police to arrive - if you can access a phone - is going to be an eternity. If you ever run into that person, having a firearm will be "the only way you can live".

I don't have a child so I can't speak on having a gun or not if there is a child. The numbers, from what I have read, show that a firearm successfully defends a family in a number which is a high multiple of the times it would accidentally harm one. When the firearm did accidentally harm someone, it was usually due to gross ridiculous negligence.

Sure- people can argue- no guns, no gun violence. Like it or not, living in the states, people have guns. Not as many as foreigners see on television. They tend to think that 99% of us are firearm owners and walking around shooting things like they see in westerns. Not true - AT ALL.

What also is not true is that gun control can help reduce crime in America. The guns are here. The people who want them have and always will have access to them. The bad people who know YOU don't have one WILL target YOU.

Every city with restrictive firearm laws have caused HUGE gun violence rates. Go read about Washington DC.

If you take the ignorance and emotion based thinking out of it, here in the states, good people owning firearms by and large will reduce crime. Period. Gun control advocates are guilty of causing innocent people to die in the states. Period.

Still don't believe me? Okay- let's outlaw firearms, tomorrow. Or restrict the hell out of them. Tomorrow. Make huge sweeping gun control laws. Blam.
