It's the principle of letting people get away with crap like this.

a note for you, it would break the average american.

Sure, agreed. I guess I should clarify: would it break most of us who are actually making money from this industry, and not just the $100/week affiliate checks guys (who I have much love for, no disrespect intended)?

Seriously, if $38k breaks your finances, then you probably need a cheaper car, a cheaper house, or a cheaper lifestyle. At least eight months of cushion should be in the bank for emergencies, etc. Figuring an average $150,000 salary (with program owners being higher, and your average designer, etc, being lower), that's $100,000 cushion money, of which $38k only represents a 38% hit to your stash.

It'd be silly to take another $50k (50% of your stash, totally 88% now) to fight for that $38k, in my opinion. But maybe that's just me. Aside from my cars (which is an addiction I have to start fighting), I'm fairly conservative with my money.

Any why would anyone in their right mind need to "prove" that any amount "ain't shit" to them? I'm not a wealthy man by ANY means. Aside from my exotics (of which only the Viper was paid off), what do I have that's even valuable? My collection of used Yankees tickets? My needlessly fancy chef's knives? My star wars figures, out of the box so I can play with them? LOL.

I never really "got" the trying to look like a "baller" on GFY thing. In real life, it's a good way to get robbed. On here, it's an easy way to spot someone who's never had the finer things in life -- so when they experience it, they run to GFY with pictures and stories of how "rich" they are.

court isn't an option anymore if it's 4 years... and the limit is $25,000 for small claims in ontario... not all, but most of it. no lawyer

now he's just in a 'he said she said' kind of argument, and he didn't sue or go to any gov't agency in the proper time frames........ sure he has papers, but he did nothing with them. They mean nothing now. That falls on him.

he might as well be posting I coulda woulda shoulda done something... but he DIDN'T.

I'm not saying mark was innocent, but he is NOW cause he didn't do anything in the proper time frames.

time to suck it up and move on. Take it as a lesson where you learned not to do that again, and what to do if it does happen in the right time frames.

imagine just how powerful his case would be if he had a legal judgement against mark..... now, with mark saying talk to my lawyer, and him not doing that... he looks like the bad guy. not saying he is, just how it looks..... think about it.

It's a pretty boring one, and I don't want to distract from the thread, but they did a contract extension with me through the required written notification, then changed their minds and backed out, never paying a dime. I geared up to service the contract, and I paid my vendors regardless of Playboy's decisions. No one got screwed on my end, I made sure of it.

From the beginning of the negotiation with Lensman, it was supposed to be $5k/month plus $5k/mo in advertising on GFY. That extra $5k never made it into the final deal, and when they agreed to the year extension (after doing a 9-month extension previously, which they paid), I had no reason to doubt them. Then a VP came waddling in and blathered on about not renewing, not paying for the months I provided service without a contract, etc.

They paid late a lot of the time anyway. But it was neat seeing a Heffner's signature on the checks:

http://www.edgeprod.com/dom/pb-check.jpg

Anyway, water under the bridge. They were in a very bad financial situation, and I had/have friends there, so I accepted a private apology and wrote it off as bad debt. At least they acknowledged it, apologized for it, and have said good things to new clients on my behalf. GTS, on the other hand ... is another story.

FreeHugeMovies 11-09-2011 11:21 AM

But FYI the media income in the US is $39k and change.

ummm, i'm thinking without a judgement when it's clear from what he's saying that he would have got one, he looks like a disgruntled fired employee.

his whole story doesn't add up without the judgement. just saying....

forget mark for a second, would you hire him? blah blah blah,,,seriously.. think about it. if something goes wrong, he explodes.

would you work with mark? you can say No no no but if mark has something you can buy that's profitable for you, then all this thread makes you do is make sure you dot your 'i's and cross your 't's when dealing with mark, which you should do anyway with everyone. Worst thing it does to mark is end a couple handshake deals and force him to put them in paper.

end of this thread - winner mark. sad but true

While I wouldn't mind $38k and think it's a good chunk of money I can see why he might have let it go. Owed money, regardless of amount, can drive one mad. If you don't get paid and told you are going to, you can begin to dwell on it and think of all the "what ifs?" I've had this happen to me on a much smaller amount and am still having trouble letting it go.

The thing is, the person that owed the money doesn't give a shit. So you drive yourself mad thinking about it while the other person is living life like normal. So here you are filing all this court bullshit, consumed with only the possibility of getting your money back when you could be doing more constructive things with the time.

I'm not siding with one or another, I'm just talking about the stance on money owed and that it can suck either way you go.

And Sleazy is very right about Canadian companies. You don't fuck over employees in Canada, they always get their money.

If he wasn't a scumbag (and perhaps not a scammer), then he'd make the $10,000 donation to a charity of my choice. It's not even like I'M trying to get money for ME -- it's silly to even imply that at this point.

Never cracked a 6-figure check, unfortunately, even in the "glory days" ... problem for me was that I was doing it part-time from 1996 to about 2000, so I missed out on concentrating the weight of my efforts back when people actually spent money. Biggest check wasn't MUCH bigger than the $25k check.

I don't remember any projects that went unfinished. Which one are you talking about, specifically? I completed recent-ish "public" projects such as:

Feed Pushers -- Original RSS Morphing Feed Solution, for which I now refer people to the capable hands of CyberXXX.

Autoblogger Pro Stand Alone Edition -- The autoblogging sensation that sold like gangbusters. Chio bounced a check to me, stole the money and ran, just like he subsequently did on Bliggo, and then on Verified Charge.

Adult Empire Builder -- A self-populating organic network builder that scaled out galleries, TGPs, AVS sites, fake forums, real forums, fake password honeypots, tube sites, etc. In private "sole" license status since 2007 or 2008, which expires close to the end of 2011.

Was it any of those, or do I need to think further?

Seems pretty accurate.

Oh, wait, no. Then we find out that the booze, cigars, chocolates, and mistresses were paid for by stiffing employees on their wages.

Well, GFY ideas are usually like assholes: everyone has one, and most of them stink.

My most recent project was building a framework for car dealerships to post to online auction sites, Craigslist, etc, as well as handle customer management, service, print window stickers, and assign lead follow-up.

About a year ago, I took on a long-term client and promised them two years of dedicated work without major distraction, so I've been isolating my projects to just that endeavor as per my commitment. I plan to stay with them much longer than two years (they've been very great to work with, and we're doing interesting things), but once I can have outside commitments, I have several projects which will likely launch with "brand managers" to handle the customer side of the house. I'm not a huge fan of interfacing with the public. :winkwink:
