california realestate is a good place to be..hire a managment company to rent them and deal with everything..in ten years would be in a good place with money making money for you..not much to deal with except what you would really like to spending your time on..of course diversify some of it into fairly conservative investments...say anything yeailding dididends which if Bushe's new tax plan goes through will be tax free

As others have pointed out, if you don't get caught up in the lifestyle status thing and you don't have some deep seated need to continue playing the liquid asset building game, you could live happily on 4M (or 2M, or even 1M) for the rest of your life.. which is what I would do.
