I appear now the other sites will be more mindful of acting on DMCA notices and not actively encouraging stolen material. Youtube has added some good features for producers to allow their content to be on the site in exchange for a share of the ad revenue. Perhaps some other sites will do the same - working legally with the people who invested in producing the material.

Doubtful.

There are many tubes I see in a 5 minute search who offer 'incentives' to their members to upload content. While I am not going to say they proactive know it's all stolen or what not (as there is an exception to every rule). Looking at most profiles you can see that the content is mismatched and watermarked from a ton of different companies.

Most who I doubt would knowingly allow full length anything uploaded.

:2 cents:

That made a difference.

SOPA only deals with sites not hosted in America.

So you don't really make the point you were aiming for.

Look at Internet gambling as an example of making it illegal for VISA and other US companies to process their payments -- they are still in business aren't they?

I'm asking myself the same thing.

Maybe he was put in there as an informer or something, the guy is in the music industry and his wife is Alicia Keys so this shutdown benefits him and the people he mingles with the most.

They were charged under the RICO statute -- organized crime and racketeering for criminal copyright infringement.

Let's see how the Defendants answer the charges at trial ... They are looking at as much as 55 years at Fed-Med.

Mega is probably guilty as fuck but they shuttered someones business a year ago that was cleared of all charges. After the government stalled the court case, never gave them the info that was legally requested, refused to drop the shit and put them out of business. :thumbsup

But my point was, let's say you own one of the sites that is on the "list". You are in the US, Canada*, Great Britain* or US friendly countries.

You made your money. Do you want to dangle that site in front of the DOJ with your name attached. Give up all your money when it is seized? All your property when it is confiscated? Do hard time?

When more prosecutions come down I would not be surprised to see some file sharing sites fold.

* Thought I would draw the Canooks and Brits in. :) Jurisdiction may not be there with the US but I would not be so sure. And I still would take my butt off the chopping block.

This is true. Lots of shit will no longer sell but the stuff that marginally sells will sell better. It won't sell worse.

So win some lose some. Pirates had their day. It is ending very tragicly for some of the Long John Silvers.

DOJ doesnt fuck around and these guys will lose all assets to pay restitution and will get hard time to set an example.
