No one seems to have mentioned the Florida Keys yet. I've enjoyed living down here since 1997 so if anyone's looking to relocate this far south you can hit me up for info and suggestions.
Note that the Keys are more diverse than some folks realize. There's the Upper Keys, Middle Keys, and Lower Keys (where you'll find Key West). The Uppers are closer to the mainland so they're a bit more like living in (or near) a city. The Lowers are mostly about being close to Key West and for those looking for more entertainment and dining choices. The Middle Keys are sort of like living out in the country, with either Key West or Miami just a short or long drive away. And the drive is always pretty nice too. :) http://honeymoondestinations.org/wp-...eys-bridge.jpg |

It's the same thing when they are out in clubs getting drunk down here they think they are untouchable, they get loud and pushy. The two guys in the article probably talked shit to the wrong guy and boom. Obviously not all Brits are like this but the overwhelming majority that I've seen are. |
Yeah, that hooligan shit will get you shot in the face quickly on this side of the map.

Lehigh acres is kinda nuts. It is abut 40 minutes from cape coral and like 20 from downtown fort myers. At one point it was undeveloped and growing, then real estate went to shit. You find a lot of people in newer houses there on roads that were never paved. Like shit just stopped lol. Lot of hispanics in Lehigh as they at one point pumped money into commercials in miami as cheap real estate. I assume more than a few people got less than what they expected. Lot of rednecks as well as its in bfe. .................................................. ......... Cape coral/naples/sarasota are some of the nicer places living wise. Boring as shit though. Lot of people but the town seems small, kids hang out at walmart at night type of place. Hard to make friends if you arent in school or working for a big company full of social people lol. Most businesses here are smaller and most of you work for yourselves. Fort Myers has good and bad parts to it. The downtown area was really expensive when real estate was good. They built a shitload of highrise condos in ft myers that were selling for 400k - 1mil. Look at them now lol. http://oasiscondominiums.com/ http://fgcmls.rapmls.com/scripts/mgr...ID=162 656171 147k to start My house is 1500 sq ft and built in 05. Originally sold for 230k I got it for 85k and we got it in 2010. You can get a newer, decent place for 80 - 100k in the Cape. As stated though, good for family or to settle down. Nice beaches around sanibel and marco island. Don't come here for nightlife though. My family moved here when I was 13 so I am used to it now. Im like a fucking hermit though lol. Stay home most nights and focus on my work. |

I've lived in east Fort Lauderdale, less than a mile from the beach, for the past thirty years and love it. It's an eclectic, mostly English speaking, area of snow birds, tourists and year rounders like myself.
Fantastic dinning, beaches and waterways with water taxies, all within a mile or two. Miami or Boca is 30 minutes from us. The beach is less than 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes by bicycle. As Simon mentioned the Keys are wonderful and only 90 minutes from where we live. http://terrizamore.com/b/ftlaud.png |
