Speaking of breastfeeding there was a woman in a public park breastfeeding her toddler.
A homeless guy, thinking the boy looked a little old to be breastfed and probably old enough to talk, walked up to the rather attractive young mother and said with a friendly smile "S'cuse me ma'am..." and then, as he pointed at her other breast, said "Your son invited me to dinner" :D |

Big fuss about it on the news.

I wonder how many people commenting on this thread have done any research on the history of breastfeeding. Most of the "opinions" being spouted come directly from propaganda fed to the public by baby formula companies (an $8B a year industry).
By the way: 1. breastfeeding your baby OR small child is not in any way a sexual act and 2. breastfeeding fulfills emotional needs in addition to nutritional ones and 3. boobs were not created simply for your sexual enjoyment. I did a lot of research before my son was born and was pretty horrified by the attacks on breastfeeding that have gone on over the years. It's like a modern day witch hunt. I had family members giving me grief for breastfeeding my 2-month-old! Most children will start to refuse the breast long before the age of 3 but who are you to judge what that family deems proper for them? Think about the topic with your big head instead of your little one and you might see things differently (although the cover mom is pretty hot, I must admit). |
Who at Time reviewed this and said, "Ok, greenlight this." ????

Big deal on the age factor. De-contextualizing the act like that for the photo/s certainly will raise eyebrows and off-putting thoughts in many people's minds; it certainly caused a "wtf" from me as a first-impression. This is the "about the cover" story: http://lightbox.time.com/2012/05/10/parenting/#1 :D |

That said, it's my opinion that if the kid is old enough to hold a conversation with you, they're beyond the need for breastfeeding. I think the moms are the ones with the issues in most of these cases. I have a 3 year old and I can't imagine her still breastfeeding. I also have an 18 month old and she's been off the boob for 8 months. All three of our kids weened themselves off at 10 months, on their own. And my girlfriend couldn't have been happier. |
The OP did ask "what do you think?", so it's no surprise that there are a variety of thoughts. There is no right or wrong answer to an open ended question like that.
I had an 18 yr old employee once who had the weird habit of sucking his thumb. I'm not talking about rarely, and I'm not talking about in private. I mean thumb, all the way in, all the time he wasn't talking or busy, standing right in the store front without a care in the world. Big kid, special order shoes (size 15 or 16 extra wide), burly 6 foot 4 kid, thumb jammed in to the hilt.. It was the fucking strangest habit I've ever seen and when I would catch him and tell him to knock it off, he would sometimes get pissed that his parents never stopped him from doing it. His dream was to create golf courses of all things. Nice kid. Weird childhood habit.. |
That is a big ass three year old. That breast milk must be doing the trick.
