After all the gun threads over the years on GFY, I am beginning to think that the haters are simply jealous because they can't pass a simple background check to buy a gun.
I would post more on this topic, but I hear someone rambling around in my garbage cans. Let me grab my 45 from my granddaughter and go check it out. She's only two so I know she's gonna cry when I take it away from her. |
fitty............one............. pea shooters ....... damn slow airport connection:mad:

Aaron,
I'm in the market for my first gun, call it self protection. I know your going to hate this, but I need something very cheap as I don't have a large budget for this type of thing. Need something cheap, reliable, and fairly accurate.. I do want it to have some power. Any suggestions? Total beginner. Not in it for interest, but function. |

Regardless of where you purchase a hand gun it will only be shipped to a licensed (FFL) holder where you can pick it up. |

1: Will this be a carry weapon or home defense only? 2: Will you be the only person shooting it or will a GF/Wife also use it? 3: If other people than you, how strong are they compared to you? Come to think of it, how strong are you? 4: What State do you live in? (the previously mentioned Taurus is not legal in all States) 5: What kind of capacity are you interested in? |
Here's what I keep handy in the house, a shotgun with the basics of a revolver. It's a S&W that shoots .410 000 Buckshot. Also shoots .45's and when loaded with bird shot is great for snakes.

I like the 9mm round. It shoots nicely, it's easy to fire multiple shots with accuracy, commonly available, inexpensive, with a good range of bullets and loads. |

Do you keep it loaded with .410? |
for that kind of dough id have gotten myself a kimber gold match II or something along those lines....
thats just me though. i've never really been a fan of glocks. don't get me wrong they are good guns. just not my style. |

The non-lethal weapon is another thing, although I'm think that traumatic guns must be seriously limited here as well, because they rather often used to kill. P.S. I'm not the type of men who don't know how to use firearms and just afraid of 'em. I've been to army and I'm very friendly with standard Russian weapons. Furthermore I was learning the art of gun shooting since I was 11 year old as a pentathlon sportsman (MCM pistol was my first gun :)). |
It's pointless owning a firearm if all you do is shoot it at a target and think your hot shit. Oh and show it off on an adult board :2 cents:

a rational person owns a firearm hoping they will never have to use it to kill another person. they practice with it both for personal pleasure, the mastery of a complex skill, and so that if they ever have to use it to kill someone their training and practice makes it possible for them to do so despite adrenaline shakes and bad lighting and fear for ones life and the lifes of others. shooting, in case you did not know, is hellacious fun. There are not a lot of things more fun. |

If we could only practice shooting homeless people to get some "real-world" training. |
A gun is a tool. Bragging about and showing off guns is as lame as showing off your pimped out hammer.
Speaking of tools... |

I'm pro gun rights, but waving them around says something very negative about the owner. |
Knock down power, wtf? The difference in power between 9/40/45 is irrelevant. Shooter skill will determine outcome much more than the size of a hole.

Most guns owners hope they will never have to use a gun to defend themselves. Even if it's justified, killing someone would be a horrible experience not to mention very expensive. Most gun fights take place within 7-10 feet so you don't have to be that great of a shot to hit your target but you do have to be comfortable using it to be proficient. Gun owners/collectors like to shoot paper targets because it's challenging so it's something they are proud of. |
LOL so dumb

a gun is nothing short of a technically developed rock sling.
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5poKOBB3tr...pUo/s400/1.jpg wonder if the fellows back in the stone age were also bragging about their weapons? |

From the beginning of time people have decorated and displayed their various weapons. Discussing isn't bragging. I see nobody bragging in this thread. I wonder if fellows back in the stone age trolled others or respected their rights to carry a "rock sling"? Were they afraid to leave their caves without a spear? :1orglaugh |
Where do you people live that you need to carry such weapons for 'protection'?
What is it that you do that requires such 'protection'? Do you tote around gold bars in a briefcase attached to your wrist w/ a long handcuff that you need such 'protection' on you at all times? http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/..._briefcase.jpg Don't get me wrong, I have no problem w/ guns. I own two myself but I don't carry them on me all the time like I'm Dirty Harry. haha |
There is a great gun.. a kimber

I love the way some people are saying about "oh you wouldn't drive without a spare tire" or "you don't go hiking without a flare" etc.
No you probably don't do those things unless you're in the "that won't happen to me" mindset. But when you talk about guns, the main reason people carry pistols in the USA has to be because they are protecting themselves from potential handgun or other weapons owners that could become a very true threat, at that point I totally agree with people owning handguns. But what happens when handguns are 100% illegal? and they cannot be carried? I'm guessing a lot less people get killed and a lot less people get injured. Point being the majority of countries with much stricter rules have much lower murder rates. Just check the figures. I don't think any normal person should ever feel the need to even carry a weapon around with them but I can see why people in certain countries or even as deep as square miles do. And on the subject of guns themselves I think many of them are works of art and an interesting piece of engineering but I would never promote everyone carrying a gun with them everywhere they go because it wouldn't be long before the next weapon got developed to give the upper edge over the gun. Don't even think I'm being naive because that is where that road goes. Someone who wants to protect themselves from guns will eventually find a preventative or pre-emptive measure that will hurt gun owners. |

Anyone relying on the ability of police to protect them is deceiving themselves. I'd rather do it myself. So I'm a gun owner. . |
