But, if there are more people out there just like her that are solely responsible for destroying someone's life, it's much more important to get these people to come forward than it is to make them pay for their own crime. Charging her and suing her mother will only keep others from telling the truth.

Excellent point, I think we read a story like this and get so caught up in wanting justice for the false accuser rather than trying to focus on how to make sure this doesn't happen again.

I read that he's currently 27 and even that was a bit confusing considering that original charges were brought against him when he was 17 and he served 5 years. Looks like he had to sit in jail for 5 years before he was able to agree to a plea for 5 more years. Seems weird that it would take 5 years before he was offered a plea bargain.

He served the 5 years and has been out since 2007. I was under the impression he just got out too.

I do to, just not sure what exactly they can do.

Ah, that would make more sense, although i don't see those details in the article posted above.

From a civil standpoint, would be nice to see the LB school district file suit against her mom to recover the 1.5 million. Even if she's broke, just getting a judgement on her assets and future earnings would make her and her daughter suffer some.

Yeah, I too wonder what they could get her with. I guess they could get falsifying a police report since she lied, but that isn't going to be put her away for very long. I guess they might be able to do perjury if she ever testified under oath during a deposition or anything like that, but I'm not sure.

A civil suit, if nothing else, would make sure she lost any of the money that is left and send a message, but it still seems pale as compared to sitting in jail for multiple years.

I guess we can just hope that Karma eventually gets her.

A bad case to be black in.

Hopefully he'll make a splash in sports.
The 1.5 million makes me rage at the cunt.

And you only need ONE case like this to make it obvious why the death penalty is a bad idea.

Exonerating a corpse doesn't really mean much.

I don't think you can Plea to the Death Penalty.

You Have to go to trial and mandatory appeals.

Have lots of Innocent people been let off death row with new technology, YES.

Does the system need redone now to put people on there, YES.

Thanks, I missed that, certainly sheds some light on how things went down.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 05-28-2012 03:03 PM

Sad, and also scary is the fact that they let a guy out of prison after 5 years who they believed raped and kidnapped a teenager.

I'm guessing that he'll get invited to somebody's training camp this summer. But, it'll just public relations gesture and he won't make the team.

Very sad.

...was anyone else thinking "world of warcraft" ?

kane 05-30-2012 04:11 PM

Some good news for the guy. It looks like at least four NFL teams will give him a tryout and ESPN is reporting that several teams are willing to give him a shot.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/79...-banks-try-out

I wish him good luck. Hopefully something good can eventually come from all of this.

school was already blamed for not protecting the girl, i am guessing thats where the 1.5mil come in..
if anything he can sue the DA and possible the girl in a civil suit.
