There were probably 2 or 3 Jack the Rippers so I don't think it would count. Wikipedia has some great articles about historic serial killers that existed before such a term even became known.

Agreed, albert fish was nuts. When arrested, he complained of abdominal pain. After xrays, they saw a bunch of nails he had stuck in himself for the pleasure of the pain. Good documentary on youtube about him.
