GOP criticizes Libyan security, voted to cut funding

Washington - Republican Utah Rep Jason Chaffetz has been vocal with his criticism about the handling of Libyan consulate security, but he has also admitted that he voted to cut embassy funding.

Chaffetz has accused the Obama Administration of caring more about appearances than about the security of the consulate and staff in Libya. According to a FoxNews 13 report, Chaffetz, a senior Republican on the House Government Oversight Committee, has stated that documents show help was requested by teams in Libya and but those requests were consistently denied. Chaffetz is quoted as saying:

?It seems to be a coordinated effort between the White House and the State Department. They wanted the appearance of, quote unquote, normalization there in Libya and building up of an infrastructure, putting up barbed wire on our facility would lead to the wrong impression.?

He later told Fox and Friends he didn't have evidence to that effect, but it was his "strong opinion."

During an interview with Fox News' Greta Van Susteren, Chaffetz also stated
"They wanted a narrative that they were moving towards normalization, the appearance of normalization as swiftly as possible. But that, unfortunately, I think led to the idea that we didn?t have the security in place to protect our assets in Libya."

However, as Congressional hearings regarding the attack on the Libyan Consulate began on Wednesday, it was revealed that Chaffetz and other republican House members voted to cut funding for embassy security.

During an interview with CNN Anchor Soledad O?Brien, Chaffetz was asked if it was true he voted to cut embassy security spending. Chaffetz responded by saying:
?Absolutely. Look we have to make priorities and choices in this country. We have? 15,0000 contractors in Iraq. We have more than 6,000 contractors, a private army there, for President Obama, in Baghdad. And we?re talking about can we get two dozen or so people into Libya to help protect our forces. When you?re in tough economic times, you have to make difficult choices. You have to prioritize things.?

House Democrats issued a memo stating that since 2010, House Republicans have voted to reduce the embassy security funding requested by President Obama by approximately half a billion dollars. This was done despite security concerns and the need for updated or additional construction of security walls for some embassies and consulates such as the one in Benghazi.

A Washington Post report states that the GOP-controlled House proposed spending $1.934 billion for the State Department?s Worldwide Security Protection program for the fiscal year 2013 budget. That number is well below the $2.15 billion requested by the Obama administration. They also cut the administration?s request for embassy security funding by $128 million in 2011 and $331 million in 2012. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned that the Republicans? proposed cuts to her department would be ?detrimental to America?s national security.? Republicans rejected the warning and went ahead with the budget cuts

Gee, aren't you a regular fucking Sherlock Holmes. You have a screenshot from a video with the video URL beneath it, and you haven't even bothered to watch it?

In the video it's made quite clear the image you posted is a Chinese factory, since Charles Kernaghan, from the Institute For Global Labour And Human Rights, is talking about the shitty working conditions at two Sensata factories in China, of which that is specifically illustrated as being one.

Here ya go:

The only one resorting to fabrications and distortions is you, posting an image that isn't used in any of those stories, and lying about it, or misunderstanding it through lazy ignorance.

See above. The video makes it quite clear that's a Chinese factory.

Uh, because the factory in that photo you posted is in China. I thought that was your entire point? So why are you confused that it doesn't look like IL? The Sensata factory is where you think it is, next to Walmart.

The fucking idiot here is you, for not bothering to get your facts straight.

listen at 1:33 what that guy says: " what was the more humiliating was that one week before ... "

Any other point on that ??

Does anyone think Obama will throw Hillary under the bus to take heat off of himself over the Libya mess?

As for Libya....you might want to understand that our embassy and consulates are US soil. The Libyans nor anybody else has any say so over whether we have marines there or not.
It is defacto US territory.

That's how embassies work.

Your slavish devotion to baby jesus Obama is bordering on creepy. If you can't see that this is a HUGE fuck up and cover up then you are indeed just a blind partisan to the cult of personality that is Obama.

sure.....

Contrary to popular belief, diplomatic missions do not enjoy full extraterritorial status and are not sovereign territory of the represented state.[5][6] Rather, the premises of diplomatic missions remain under the jurisdiction of the host state while being afforded special privileges (such as immunity from most local laws) by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Diplomats themselves still retain full diplomatic immunity, and (as an adherent to the Vienna Convention) the host country may not enter the premises of the mission without permission of the represented country. The term "extraterritoriality" is often applied to diplomatic missions, but only in this broader sense.

Who the fuck cares about Libya or any of the rest of it?

Clinton was right twenty some years ago when he said: It's the economy stupid.

It still is.

The bad economy and the lack of good jobs are what the voters care about.

Nothing else matters.

Nothing.

Whether this story is true or not I doubt it will really matter. The story of Romney and his scumbagery are well documented. Every news channel (save maybe Fox) has talked about his lies, there are tons of articles about Bain gutting companies and selling them off and still he is in this race and is in a position to win.

I don't think one more story is going to change that unless Obama calls him out on it in the debate, but if he does that he runs the risk of getting called on his own shit because. . . well. . . he hasn't exactly done a bang up job himself.

GREAT REASON TO CHOSE THE "LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD."

We're part of it but don't have a right to vote.

What brought the World into this mess, Wall Street or Old Town Square?

At Bain Capital-Owned Sensata Technologies, Arrests Ahead Of Layoffs And Plant Closing

Posted 10/8/2012:

Quote:

Three people protesting the closure of an Illinois plant run by a Bain Capital-owned company were arrested on Monday after an encounter with a truck driver hauling equipment out of the plant.

The protesters had been trying to prevent the removal of machinery from a Freeport, Ill. plant for Sensata Technologies, which manufactures electronic sensors for cars and employs nearly 200 people. The firm has been in the national spotlight because it is owned by Bain Capital, the private equity firm that GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney helped found, and it is outsourcing the Illinois jobs to China during a presidential campaign that's often been focused on offshoring.
