I am right under $1000 a month for one.

$1000 for 1 server with 100 Mbps?
You might want to do some shopping around then :)

I've consolidated a lot, dropped several windows servers that I no longer needed, and moved all my adult to one machine instead of six.

Emil 11-08-2012 01:08 PM

Maybe $10/month. I used to have 3 dedicated servers but now only use 3 shared hosts. =)

Denny 11-10-2012 06:36 AM

Bump :pimp

From where?

loreen 11-10-2012 09:47 AM

$69.95 / month :)

seeandsee 11-10-2012 10:07 AM

Around 80$, few shared accounts and one VPS

selena 11-10-2012 10:51 AM

$400 for a dedicated and $6.25 for a tiny virtual account elsewhere.

I have no idea on the specs, because that kind of thing makes my head explode.

I do know that after the first of the year I am going to be seriously considering changing what I have. In terms of affiliate paysite traffic, I have a fraction of what I used to. I have told myself that I needed to stay with something dedicated because of scripts.

However, with JMB flying the coop, I don't know that those products will continue to be useable. If they aren't, at this point, I don't see investing in new scripts to replace them, given that the revenue the sites create just isn't worth it. If that is the case, I could do everything that I do on WordPress. Which would mean either a downsized dedicated, or spread-out virtuals.

I just have to balance that against the fact that I have a world class host, and what the ramifications would be to switching to a lesser one.

Brad

So, are you saying that someone has to drive large amounts traffic and have larger hosting expenses than mentioned in places in this thread to earn a living from online sales?

helterskelter808 11-10-2012 11:19 AM

^ The guy (pamon) got a hard time, and yet nothing he said was incorrect. I assumed he meant only people with large amounts of traffic needed to pay more. You could make a living with a server running in Virtualbox on your desktop PC.

AndrewX 11-10-2012 12:08 PM

Having a good system administrator to manage your servers and tweak the performance of your software is the key to brining down your monthly hosting bill. We can help you with that.

My specs:
- Dual Quad Core Xeon L5420 2.5Ghz Processors
- 16 GB RAM
- 6x2TB RAID 10
- Wowza
- 100 Mbps (overages at $5 Mbps), I currently do about 115 Mbps

$920 per month, plus overages. Fully managed at NatNet.

You may be right on the intent behind was was meant. :) I wasn't sure. As it stands on the surface, I thought it was a dick thing to say, so I decided to ask for clarification.

BlackCrayon 11-10-2012 12:30 PM

pamon 11-23-2012 08:15 PM

True... guess you could do that... never thought about that.
