Well that's exactly it, you nailed it dead nuts on the money. Learn to control yourself and your own decisions, and the control of whether to have the next drink or not becomes moot.
Perhaps what you need is a time-out from drinking. Over the past 5 years I have had three long stretches where I had no drinks and bought no booze for the house. Meaning I had no booze at home stashed in cupboards, closets etc. Nada.
It was a decision I made, and I made myself stick to it, urges be damned.
So whatever you decide, be it permanent or a temporary time out, I wish you luck, and the resolve to stick to your decision. The question we all have to ask ourselves at some point in life is, do my inner urges control and dictate my actions or do I? If the answer is "I control my actions" then you have to train yourself to tell your urges to take a hike sometimes.
