hold on a second.... you "grabbed" it?? with bare hands?? or do you keep industrial strength shoulder length gloves on hand at all times for this type of situation??

$100 says I'm not the only one who just looked up at their ceiling and checked all the corners.

I have had a few in my car under the sun visor and that is never fun (oh it's sunny let me put my sun visor down da fuck is that..... ) - great way to test your brakes and how quick you can jump out of your car though :thumbsup

Same thing happened to me recently, thankfully I was just about to start driving as I saw it and it ran into the door crack. They are big and damn fast.

The golden orb spiders are the ones I hate, I got bitten on the face about 6 months ago, swelled up around the eye for a few days and had a red bite spot for about 4 weeks after that.

I'm so happy we don't have spiders here which can get through your skin.

:1orglaugh I'd shit myself at a spider that big. They don't usually bother me, but that definately would!

JamesM 12-06-2012 08:19 PM

I have a heap of them in my garden and the ones that wrap themselves up in leaves. Fuckers build spider webs over my driveway each night so when I go out to my car in the morning - bang spiderweb in the face if I forget to put my arm out and clear them away.

Have not been bitten yet *knock on wood*

@ Franck, last week I was putting on a t-shirt from my closet and I felt something moving on my back so shook the t-shirt and a big black spider fell out and he now live inside my vacuum cleaner along with a few nails and anything else sharp that were sent down after him :winkwink:

Huntsmans are scary looking but fairly harmless and shy. It takes a lot of provocation for them to bite you and when they do it's not dangerous. They do move FAST though, so I wouldn't try picking them up. In this case it had wrapped itself around a sandwich bag, so I just picked up the bag and dropped it onto the road. My fingertips were half an inch from those hairy legs. :pimp

Jesus Christ I couldn't imagine living somewhere where I could wake up and see that on the wall...

nice try,huntsman spider!

AdultKing 12-07-2012 12:28 AM

One thing about a huntsman, you can unload a whole can of insect spray on one and it will still jump at you!

If you want to kill one be prepared to whack it with your shoes.

astronaut x 12-07-2012 12:43 AM

To me that looks an awful lot like the camel spider, commonly found in the middle east.

AdultKing 12-07-2012 12:51 AM

It's a huntsman

Evil1 12-07-2012 01:00 AM

That motherfucker would be out of my house escorted by whatever shell gets hastily slammed into the 12 gauge. I'll happily spend the next 6 hours patching the fucking hole in the wall.

Fuck the shotgun. I'd throw a grenade. Actually, make that a sticky grenade like a Semtex on Call of Duty.:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

camel spiders....

I don't know, these guys look worse to me, however, they are reported to be harmless, yet have been known to bite humans. They look like something totally out of a sci-fi flic.

Hell... maybe they taste like crab legs? Grab a pot, melt some butter and squeeze some lemons!

I was in a swimming pool in Cairns and one of those fuckers got in the pool with me.

I swear to god the thing skated across the water towards my face - I flew out of that water.

I'm a big guy but I managed to flap my arms and fly...

rowan 12-07-2012 04:41 AM

There was a big huntsman sitting on a wall adjacent to the entry walkway of a weekender house I'd just driven an hour to get to. My wife refused to enter the property and wanted to go home. It was 10 fucking pm and I was tired. After a bit of arguing (I refused to kill it) we managed to reach a compromise: I covered her view of it with a magazine as she walked past. It was gone by the next morning... to where, nobody knows. <spooky music>

Just reading the replies in this thread never mind the pics has made me shit my pants!

Spiders are my biggest fear. Have been for years. Can't see it changing anytime soon...

fatfoo 12-07-2012 03:43 PM

Yes, it does look like it is from an alien planet. You haven?t seen all the creatures on earth. Probably you will see more new aliens.

Mutt 12-07-2012 03:44 PM

amazing how common arachnophobia is - not saying i like them but they don't freak me out that much. i've never been in the same room as any spider anywhere near as big as a huntsman or camel spider tho.

GARY LEE 12-08-2012 05:25 AM

I still remember when they filmed the movie Arachnaphobia. It was right near my house in a little town called Cambria. The whole town was spider crazy for awhile.
