There can't be any sane reason. So the answer has to be the person who did this has to be insane.

"A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country."

You think guns are the problem? People are the problem. If everyone had guns, these people would be stopped a lot sooner. An armed citizen is a safer citizen.

All the old chestnuts are coming out :1orglaugh

Comparing the world's leading nation to Mexico where a near-total collapse of government authority and corruption makes any law irrelevant. by your logic we should also scrape land property laws as they don't work in Zimbabwe.

March 13, 1996 : Dunblane massacre. Unemployed former shopkeeper and Scout leader Thomas Hamilton walked into Dunblane Primary School armed with two 9 mm pistols and two .357 Magnum revolvers. He killed sixteen small children and a teacher. The subsequent police investigation revealed that Hamilton had loaded the magazines for his Browning with an alternating combination of fully metal jacketed and hollow point ammunition. This event led to the banning of handguns in the UK.

This is such common sense but the pro-gun crowd is so brainwashed in their ideology that it'll never sink in for most of them.

I find it hard to believe most of them even believe it themselves, they are just protective of it because they like the feeling of power and security they get from having guns close by. An emotional response hiding behind ideology.

That's the thing. It's the society we live in now. More violent crazies than ever. I'm fairly indifferent to gun laws because quite frankly, people who want something have a knack for getting it whether it's illegal or not. The takeaway from the war on drugs to me is that despite people getting caught and going to jail all the fucking time for having/using drugs, they still do it - more now than before. There will be less guns, and sure there will be maybe some fewer crazy people getting them, but with criminals always having the will and the way to get guns, don't you think crime by actual career criminals may go up while the minimal amount of Joe Blow going insane crime would go down? Shit, go ahead and rob a house - guns are illegal so they probably won't have one. Or hey, how about store robbings? Store owner can't have a gun, so some easy money right there.

This is all conjecture though and I'm well aware that may NOT happen if guns are illegal here, but I don't think anyone really knows. We keep comparing countries with more strict gun laws with lower crime, but they are not the US and don't have our culture. It's our culture that is fucking us most. These shootings happen here most of all IMO because this is a culture that is producing more and more crazy people as time goes on and we're simply fortunate that such a tiny percentage of them have been getting guns and doing this kind of shit.

these were little kids, you think they should have each had a gun? even if arming people in a school wasn't a stupid idea, who would be armed? the teacher right?

I have a daughter in kindergarten, and another starting next year, parents, teachers, volunteers, support workers, and numerous other people walk in and out everyday, there is no kindergarten metal detector, so this guy could walk in past the office and walk right into the classroom. So lets say Teachers were all armed, well if they were, this guy would certainly know that and so would the rest of us. when he walks in the teacher is not going to immediately notice he walked in over the sound of 20 5 year olds, drop what he is doing, un-holster his pistol and pop the dude in the head, at the most he would have said "can I help you". Bang, the dude shoots the teacher, so how much good did the gun do? all it did was give this nut job a second gun so he could shoot more people.

at the root of this, I 100% agree with you, people are the problem, parents have been failing seriously for decades, raising mental midgets that have no idea how to live in a normal society, but you can't ban people, you can't put them in jail till they actually do something wrong, and if that something is shooting 27 people, then you are too late. You can however make the sale and distribution of automatic weapons that have no place in society illegal, you can make possessing an automatic weapon akin to attempted murder, a crime serious enough to actually deter people from breaking it.

I don't think peoples right to bear arms should be taken away, I just think the definition of that right which many of you live by is ridiculous. I am pretty sure when that document was drafted 1) there was no Meijer to buy steaks and chicken breasts at, 2) AK's, AR's m16's and uzi's didn't exist. 3) please send me a link to the story where someone shot 22 kids with a muzzle loader.

too many news outlets relying on twitter and facebook to get factual information that is too often wrong instead of waiting for official releases. everyone wants to be first.

Just for the sake of information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanping_school_stabbings

Quote:

The Nanping school massacre occurred at Nanping City Experimental Elementary School in the city of Nanping, Fujian Province, People's Republic of China, in which a man used a knife to kill eight children and seriously wound five others.[1] The incident occurred on March 23, 2010, around 7:20 am local time (UTC+8 ).[2] It was the first of the 2010 Chinese school attacks.
It seems that some are more successful than others in carrying out their evil plans.

Sounds like someone with the same name, but a different person, was the shooter:

Quote:

The alleged shooter has been identified by NBC News as Ryan Lanza, 24, and he shot and killed his father in Hoboken, New Jersey.

WNBC says Lanza then drove to Sandy Hook Elementary School where his mother was the kindergarten teacher. Lanza is said to have entered the front office at the school and opened fire, then walked to his mother's classroom and opened fire, killing her and other students.

Nothing you can do. Well that is insightful. How much tougher should we get. 50% of the populace in prison.
