This is not USA, do not compare with USA, it is normal for a simple Tax case that can be settled with a fine. No conspiracy needed really for this. In some euro countries the bail concept do not even exists at all, simply a judge decides if you should be in jail or not during investigations, and that's it. Other main issue: there's free border transit between European Union countries, he could take a car or train for any other Euro country even with no any id (includes boat for malta, cyprus, balearic or canary islands, Madeira) and no one checks him or will report where he gone. The only places he can't go without passport it is USA, Canada and such. It is like if an USA citizen on bail could go in Mexico but not in Brazil, would this be safe enough?
I still think that's just simple Tax (or specifically VAT) issue, solvable with a fine, but being in Germany that's handled this way, which may look a little soviet at USA eyes.

I'm mostly based in Asia these days and don't spend much time in NZ any more either but you know how it is - it doesn't change much. More Asians and Auckland property prices are through the roof - you won't get much change from a million for a reasonable house in a decent area. Every time I come back there are more strip malls and worse traffic. K Road is getting pretty gentrified now and is one of the hubs for annoying indie hipster types and there are a bunch of trendy nightclubs there now. DTM / The Staircase is now a flash multi level venue called The Studio. There is still a small amount of street prostitution around K Road but since prostitution was legalized in NZ, 99% of it has moved into private brothels run out of suburban houses, and there are no brothels on K Rd any more that I'm aware of. Recently a new upmarket strip club opened on the corner of K and Pitt St http://www.calendargirls.co.nz/ and the topless Las Vegas girl sign is still there. If the courts freeze his assets as expected there will be some short term financial strains on the adult industry.

People think Manwin/Fabian owned companies have a larger chunk of the production side of the business than do they. I know for a fact there are less than 10% of the business of the two largest agencies.

They are also aren't as big of an advertiser of the AVN as people think they are, again less than 10%

I guess Fabian lied to me about that as well. He claims that his pay sites are HUGE and that the piracy (tube sites) end of his business is a tiny fraction compared to his paysites.

And of course he also said that his sites are shooting more than anyone else.

My concern about the AVN & XBiz shows were that since he owns a lot of the big companies that usually have booths and girls signing at the AEE show...that maybe this would make the show seem a little smaller if those companies (now Manwin owned) are unable to afford to be there in force?

The fact that are 10% is astounding. The smallest site still updates with a full scene everyday week or whatever. In the early 2000 we had hundreds if not a thousand pay sites. So hundreds of updates and now these guys are 10% and maybe even bigger if you listen to the shooters.

I was shocked at how cocky he was when he said that to you. On second thought, I guess I shouldn't be shocked at his out of control ego.

This point I am going to make is not about Fabian/Manwin but a generalization. Bottom line is whether you hate or love Fabian, you got to feel for anyone going through this kind of thing. The Gov't going after Fabian has more to do with how much money/fines they can levy on him and his company so they can get a piece of the pie. It's as simple as that. Gov'ts do this all the time. When they observe a huge business entity making a killing, the first thoughts in their mind is how they can screw that company with bogus charges so they can fine that company and extort the company into paying millions/billions in fines.

Prime examples:

Microsoft: They went after Microsoft for alleged monopolization and at the end of it all, they levied a huge fine and Microsoft paid it. And business went back to usual.

PokerStars: They went after Pokerstars in a similar manner 2011 by seizing their domain name alleging wrongdoing based on gambling and tax evasion. Pokerstars paid a huge fine, and the domains were returned to them and business went back to usual.

Tobacco Companies: Same thing, big fine, business went back to normal.

It's 2012 and so the gov't cash cow this year is Fabian/Manwin just like in 2011 it was Pokerstrs. Bottom line, it's a scam and it's all about the money for the gov't. Nothing more, nothing less. They see a big entity like Manwin and all they see is $$$$ that they can milk out in fines.

Theo can comment better than this than I can, but as far as I know no one has pulled out of the show. The vast majority of girls at the show are with their with agencies.

As far as the smaller Manwin owned companies go there really aren't any.

Fabian/Manwin has made some high profile acquisitions of production companies including Digital Playground, Reality Kings and Twisty's and continues to shoot for his own companies MOFOs, Brazzers and Babes.

Again the smaller companies make up way more of the production pie than they do.

Like I stated in the beginning the no matter what happens to Fabian/Manwin this is going to be bad in the short term for the adult industry.

No one knows for certain for what will happen to Fabian/Manwin long term, but one thing is for certain production in adult industry will continue and survive.
