Thursday's surgery was very successful and the doctors managed to close one more open wound. Tom is having another important surgery on Sunday. He is very thankful for your wishes, messages and gifts.

Hi All,
I'm pretty sure most of you know that Tom Hymes was in a serious accident last week and is in UCLA Medical Center undergoing multiple surgeries.

I will be at the XBIZ360 show with a card for everyone to sign, and a big bag for any goodies anyone would like me to take to him on Thursday afternoon when I visit him (no drugs, fire arms or kittens, please!).

Anyway, I'll be at the Sofitel On Wednesday, so find me if you want to sign his card or toss some cookies or puppies into the goodie bag I am taking him.

If you are not going to the show, I am also compiling a second card for him via emails sent to me. Send those along to [email protected] and I'll get your well-wishes included on that lovely parchment card we are printing out to give to him from his "offsite" friends.

Best Regards,

Colin at Wasteland

No kittens? Damn, I thought I had a plan to get rid of these. Are you sure you can't sneak in a couple?

Evil Chris 01-05-2013 09:37 PM

Good to know that one of the surgeries was a success.

Colin, I sent you email. Thank you!

Thank you everyone. He was always very careful when riding, but sometimes that's not enough.. Unfortunately, another driver did an illegal U-turn and hit him...

This is why I am not buying a motorcycle, although it would be fun, even if you are careful driver you still may get injured or even killed because of other drivers not noticing you or doing other stupid decision.

Those that ride realize there is risk involved; but it is worth it. Pretty sure Tom would say the same thing.

I probably ride past a dozen people a day that don't even know I'm passing them because their eyes are down texting or dialing their phones. Pretty sad state on our roads now with driving being the second function of too many people.

Again, Get well Tom!!!

Tom was discharged from Ronald Reagan last Monday and is very happy to be home with the family, cat, dog, fish tank and his various communication gadgets. A lot of plastic surgery and physical therapy ahead, but his foot and leg will remain intact. Send him an email or give him a call if you have his contact info. He LOVES to chat with anyone that contacts him.

Best Regards,
Colin at Wasteland

Happy to report the good news!
I am in touch with Tom via phone a few times a day during his ordeal and I am astounded at how positive and almost "perky" my often cranky old friend has held up during this.

I did get a chance to visit him in person at the Ronald Reagan U.C.L.A. hospital prior to his discharge on my way from the XBIZ show to Internext/AEE in Vegas. It was rather remarkable in a few ways:

1) I have never seen a hotel that was made of white Italian marble and looked more like a palace in Dubai than an American medical center;
2) Tom was in a very NICE private room with a private nurse, private doctors and private Sherpas catering to his every need;
3) Tom also took the opportunity to go back to his post-modern hippy roots and is sporting a BIG moustache and wearing a little Tibetian woven wool cap that make him look pretty much like a Bohemian Anarchist Poet/Activist. I suspect the "On Demand" I.V. morphine feed adds to the coy smile...... (I want THAT!)

Anyway, Tom is back safe and sound at home now (sans Sherpas). Much plastic surgery and rehab ahead, but things look good for the long term. Do reach out to him with emails, texts or phone calls if you are in his circle. He really appreciates it.

Best Regards,
Colin

p.s. to Theo and Panos: NICE insurance plan, guys! AVN rocks in ways we are always surprised and astounded by. Ronald Reagan U.C.L.A. runs about $12k a day for basic private room services, before the doctor's bills come in. I am frankly impressed by AVN for his sort of coverage for employees. Good job, my friends. I almost want to work for you at this point. LOL

Great news indeed, appreciate the update, will reach out to Tom, he'll be happy to know the speed networking events were in very good hands during his absence. :thumbsup
