Don't be so sure about that - that is basically a call you are making based on your own personal preferences and prejudices.
In fact, I know from personal experience that a unique name can individuate a person and set them apart.
I know because my real first name is "Farrell" but my stage name was a play on my last name "Timlake", so I have been Farrell and Tim. When I was a kid, teased because of my name, calling me "farrah" was popular (guess the decade) but it a gave me something unique -which one could argue helped set me apart and on the positive path of not defining myself according to ordinary and typical and generic life choices most will follow. (Imagine how tough it was for my brother, whose name is "Moffitt", and had to deal with "little miss muffett" taunts...)
The people that only know me as "tim" treat me much differently than those that know me as "farrell" so I see it firsthand. Give another listen to Johnny Cash singing "Boy named Sue" for more perspective on this subject.
