Well I"m sorry if they weren't literal enough for you but it still makes the same point.

Sure they are growing fast but they have a lot of catching up to do in terms of how far they were behind before the west started exploiting them for cheap labor. the more worker rights and more pay the indians demand, as they will over time, the growth will slow and people will move on to other poverty stricken places to exploit. when people won't put toilets in their homes because cleaning them is viewed as impure and 'lower caste', culture is holding them back. when women are encouraged to marry their rapists because they are now impure, culture is holding them back. when more money is spend on temples instead of infrastructure that would save thousands of lives, culture is holding them back.

their belief system usually centers around karma and freeing one self from the material and the reincarnation cycle. So many aren't as amped up about making it in life, with huge goals etc. My boyfriend worked with several Sikhs and Hindu and seemed to really click with them, said they were very nice
