cost effective and a plus for your health, try working out, or any physical activity, if you have a sedentary life it will be hard for starters, but then you'll enjoy it a lot

If you like listening to music, get a nice home audio system and a turn table, start collecting vinyl.

Buy an old car and fix it up.

Two years ago or so I decided it would be good to have a third car in case our two main daily drivers went into the shop. I also thought it would be good to have a truck for hauling stuff and buying furniture and what. I was never a truck person... But I always wanted a 4x4 and when it came to trucks, I really liked the way the old Chevy Step Sides look. To make a long story short.... I bought a twenty-three year old 4x4 an fixed it up over the past two years, it looks like it's brand new, and it's become indispensable- we use it for everything from camping to shopping to dump runs.

I'm not a car person and could never fix anything, so I learned slowly. What I couldn't do myself I had a local mechanic do.

Since then I've been shopping Craigslist. That car you wanted when you were a kid twenty years ago (okay, thirty years ago)... Are dirt cheap. Go pick up an old Trans Am or a beat up convertible, fix it up, and have fun with it. I always wanted a late 1980s Monte Carlo SS or the Smokey And The Bandit car... Or maybe just an older Mustang.

I've ALWAYS wanted a convertible....

I like the idea - I don't drive so it wouldn't be a car but there is other stuff...

Perhaps you didn't give the photography enough time and effort. How long were you at it?

Although I'm formally educated and trained in photography - I didn't just pick up a camera and start cranking out Dean Capture quality shots from the start. It takes a while to get proficient...and you can get rusty very fast if you get away from it for a while.

Why not give it another shot? (pun intended) :)

Possible - I did see some times lapse stuff that looked great - I might try that, I still like the macro stuff....

I collect hobbies.

I like doing a lot of things, some of it is really expensive, some is really time consuming, some is both.

But mostly, I like building really cool shit.

My favorite hobbies include collecting $100 bills and six figure bank accounts.

Edit: fiddy hobbies!

Great thread! I am all over the place.. I collect watches (mainly Panerai), sports cars, retro video game consoles, comics, and so on. Almost always I collect things that I had or wanted as a kid..

If you have not decided on a hobby yet, you could always try taking up a musical instrument. Guitar is a fairly economical hobby, and you can collect oodles of Guitar Books.
