Oh this really sucks big time. I have there more than 800 small blogs all handwritten I built in first two years in business.. moved few of them. So are my blogs lost forever? Is that guy even alive? He did not do any updates on anything on that network for years...

at least I have backup of all of them that I created after that massive hacker attack, but still.. adding 800 blogs... been thinking if it would be better to create one super big blog or create again 800 different blogs. I think since last penguin update google likes big sites, or not?

I do not have power to do that again, I will probably just create only those which had some traffic. So no one really knows why this happened? No way how to contact Twan? If I only knew how to make at least of this work automatic.. don't you know if there is any plugin that would automatically interlink all your WPMU sites? That would safe me ton of time.

I'm enjoying this thread way more than I should. For years I have said to not use free hosts but every time I did, some of you mouth breathers would try to defend the use of free hosting. Guess what? All of my sites are still up. This has had zero effect on me.

I'm really glad that the stupid, inept or just plain lazy "webmasters" learned that this was inevitable. There is no substitute for being self-sufficient. Now go pay for some hosting and make something that you own.

what's the point of having hundreds of crappy blogs with 3 hits a day? just build a few on your own domains and hosting account. instead of updating hundreds of shitty blogs you can focus on quality, SEO/link building and traffic... and you won't need to go cry on boards about your shitty free hosted blogs being gone then :thumbsup

Yes free hosts sucks, I do not use them for at least three years, because before this it was smut and many others. Only way how to protect your work is to have your own domains and everything backed up at least twice. Even it sucks that I lost all those blogs I did not do any work on them for years, so I have lost like 50-100$ a month not more and I think its better to put effort in some new projects than trying to keep alive this old stuff. And thumblogger blogs rankings sucked for at least three years now. The only weird thing is that someone puts so much effort into building it and than lets its slowly die..
I have learned big lesson in this business, do not ever put too much effort to projects that other people can destroy over night, because they probably will. Facebook, tumblr, twitter, pinterest and just all this.. one day you have there account making you thousands and tomorrow you have nothing. If I only knew this five years ago I would save myself few thousands hours of work. well, the biggest problem is that similar thing thanks to google can happen even at your own domains when you rely on traffic from G, but luckily when that happens you can start with old content at new domain and after fewm months you are back at old rankings without so much much work like building again network of blogs you had for example at thumblogger.

Good, but how are you doing the images? Hotlinking them? You will be missing out if so on other traffic.

I like to create a page, import a gallery, use a nice lightbox/gallery plugin depending on the theme, then hotlink the best image from that gallery as the blog post image, linking to that gallery page. Also, put a pay site ad below galleries. ;)

Even when hotlinking I still get a nice amount of image traffic.

Is this in wordpress? So you have an actual wordpress page separate from the blog post?

Yeah, that way I can submit those galleries to places like The Hun while having the index look good without having to edit a bunch of things.
