On the other hand, having this done as a preemptive surgery seems drastic. Early detection is key in fighting and beating any cancer. I don't see why she couldn't have increased her Dr's check-ups instead. Removing both breasts without being actually diagnosed with cancer is excessive in my opinion.

87% chance is pretty high though. And with a lot of money and reconstructive surgery, I'm sure she'll be looking alright.

You have to love 'listening' in to a bunch of men talking on these subjects. I particularly love the ones that mock her. I agree it is drastic but she isn't the first to have made that choice based on her genetic screening. Would I? I don't know because breast cancer doesn't run in my family and I haven't watched my mom die of it.

The guys asking if it matters are somehow, I guess, tossing this sort of thing in with reporting what restaurant a celeb eats at and that kind of rubbish 'news'. I'm not at all a celebrity watcher but coming forward with this takes courage particularly in her career position which is mainly based on her sex appeal. She didn't have to make this known. She could have just had reconstructive surgery and batted away rumors about a boob job and nobody would have ever known. Instead, she is talking publicly about something that goes right to the soul of most women and using her fame - for once - for good to open a discussion amongst women.

Brad Pitt must be gay? What a dumb ass statement even if it was said in an attempt to be witty with the bros. If you are ever lucky enough to have a long term partner and she has to have a mastectomy, I hope you do her a favor and leave her rather than make her feel like any less of a woman.

Carry on with the clever comments...

why not get ovaries removed rather than breasts?

How do we know she hasn't? We don't, it is a much more common procedure and nobody on a red carpet was going to say 'her ovaries look smaller, did she have work?'

My sister had one ovary removed at 3 months old - yes, 3 months old - because there was something wrong with it that nearly killed her. She spent the next 28 years of her life wondering if the other one would ever work enough to allow her to have a child and/or when the other one would have the same issue. That's 28 years of not just her but the entire family worrying if every time she had a doctor's visit if this would be the time they told her she was sick again.

With fertility assistance she managed to have two sons within the past three years. Almost as soon as the second was born it indeed did come back and she had to have the second removed and hysterectomy. For any woman that is hard let alone for a 31 year old.

Meanwhile, growing up I got checked a few times because of her but after a while nobody was looking at me. Turns out, my ovaries are also messed up. For me, it is PCOS but it isn't uncommon for cancer to also happen for PCOS women -both ovarian and uterus - and I am aware that I could be told at any time that I have it. If they checked me and told me I had an 87 percent chance of getting it? I would have to give up the last little hope I have of having kids of my own and get them taken out.

wouldn't you just get eggs removed and go surrogate?

I'd think about it but I'm 36. These things have their limit and I'm not really sure how I would feel about a surrogate. I've been up and down the fertility emotional roller coaster through the years, I'm fairly resigned to it at this point. If that were to happen and I ended up with a partner that I really wanted to have a family with, I would likely adopt. My dad is adopted, the child would have a big support network.

Here in the UK breast cancer is the top cancer which woman get followed by prostate cancer in men and then bowl cancer in both men and woman and then lung cancer in both men and woman. Ovary cancer is way down the list for woman

The way she has been adopting kids, she may have already had that done. With science these days, in particular, stem cells, I don't know WTF was going through her head. Publicity is the first thing that comes to mind.

Do you harbor the same resentment toward Brad Pitt, the person who was actually in a marriage?

The Porn Nerd 05-15-2013 01:10 AM

I am now no longer attracted to Angelina Jolie.
You can have her Brad!!

You can have Brad, too.
They're perfect for each other.

lock 05-15-2013 01:12 AM

If she has her heart removed she can avoid getting a heart attack. I wonder what other paranoid ideas go though her head. There aren't too many ways to die. Should Brad Pitt have his prostate removed since nearly every dead male over 70 post mortem examination detected cancer in prostate. especially since brad has probably banged his out of shape.

The point I was making is, should it be front page.. breaking news, hold the press!!

I was stuck in a body clock 'can't sleep but the city is closed' zone.
