Just wanted to bump this thread after an awesome workout.
Back and Triceps today. I am finally able to do some pullups. Wide grip pullups.

Hope to be able to increase those and add it into my regular routine as a warm up.

I lost around 40 pounds in 4 months. But I can't continue because of a serious motorbike accident last week which will keep me grounded for atleast 2-3 months. :(

Rochard 08-30-2015 09:20 PM

I biked forty miles today. I am down to 206 lbs, down from a high of 251 lbs.

40 miles sounds like a lot. I doubt I could do it.
Congrats

Burning up all that muscle. Good job.

But being serious though...how much of that weight do you think is muscle when you take long-ass bike rides? Do you lift weights also?

The one thing as an older guy you DON'T want to do is lose muscle. All of you guys(or girls) doing these long, repetitive cardio style workouts are elevating cortisol, increasing hunger and eating up muscle as energy. Walking with a weighted vest or backpack is a better alternative. I know people run and bike ride because they like it -- but doing cleans, deadlifts and squats will do more for your overall health because it's adding/maintaining muscle...and muscle is the closest thing to a fountain of youth there is.

Anyway, my main point is that being focused on a weight number is ultimately counterproductive when it's just indiscriminate weight loss.

Your suggestions will fall on deaf ears. It's unbelievable how stubborn people are in changing their exercise/training protocol even when they're making no progress or look like an emaciated skinny fat human. You mention muscle and people think you're trying to turn into Arnold

I know.

And I wasn't even suggesting that someone has to be crossfit freak gym rat, but everyone is just so focused on losing "weight".

Well, if you aren't paying attention to how much protein you're eating and how many plates you're moving in the gym, it's most likely the pounds you lost is predominantly water and muscle.
