this is why i admire thomas drake and why snowden is a hypocritical coward:::::

On June 9, 2011, all 10 original charges against him were dropped. Drake rejected several deals because he refused to "plea bargain with the truth".

Guys, I really don't understand why do you wish death to Snowden. How exactly he betrayed your country? Did he reveal some military secrets or what? The guy just explained how your government is illegally watching you for your money. WTF with you? Has the USA became the USSR version 2.0 already?

dyna mo 08-02-2013 12:37 PM

i not only have thomas drake case supporting my view, i have every fucking espionage case every made against anyone in the usaunder 18 U.S.C. § 793(e) . hahahahahahahahaha

:::::::

Drake is one of four individuals in the history of the United States who has been charged specifically with “willful retention” of “national defense” information under 18 U.S.C. § 793(e). This particular portion of the Espionage Act was created in 1950 during the Second Red Scare, as part of the McCarran Internal Security Act.

Anthony Russo and Daniel Ellsberg were the first to be prosecuted for the “retention” of what came to be known as the Pentagon Papers which Ellsberg gave to The New York Times, eventually resulting in another landmark Espionage Act case in 1971, New York Times Co. v. United States. The prosecution of Russo and Ellsberg was dismissed in 1972 because of government misconduct.

The second prosecution was of Samuel Loring Morison in 1985, a Navy analyst who sold satellite photographs to Jane's Defense Weekly; he was later pardoned by President Bill Clinton.

The third was the American Israel Public Affairs Committee case in 2005 (United States v. Franklin, Rosen, and Weissman). All charges against Rosen and Weissman were dropped in 2009.

i don't wish death on snowden. i think he fucked up the whole thing by sneaking off to russia and not releasing ALL the documents and staying put. he should have stayed here, kept the focus on the information, all of it, he also should have first tried legal channels to get his information out, as thomas drake did.

You know that he was dead or end up tortured somewhere in the CIA prisons like Guantanamo (his passport was revoked, right?) if he did that. I know you are not a kid. Why don't you understand the simple things?

not only that, you are completely not getting the point.

which is he fucked up the entire reveal. the *story* now is not about the data revealed, it's about snowden and asylum.

do you not see how that is a fundamental failure?

i mean really. the shit i have to try and explain around here.

A failure? The guy just told the US citizens how their government is illegally spying on them. That's all, nothing else.

btw, this is the 3rd time you've mentioned illegal shit uncovered. the bolding on the word pushed me over the edge, he hasn't revealed anything illegal in the usa people.

you might need to get up to speed if you want to point finger.

PR_Glen 08-02-2013 01:16 PM

lots of wishful thinking and dreaming going on in this thread...

dyna mo 08-02-2013 01:19 PM

in the most simple of terms:

we had an opportunity here. according to snowden himself he still has the most damaging documents of all, unreleased. if the *story* had been able to stay focused on those document, i.e. if they were revealed and damaging, then we had a chance of this being a catalyst for positive change. the story would have maybe created transparency laws and more.

instead, the nsa has now come out and said, fuck yeah, we snoop it fucking all man, fuck you, business as usual.

the half-hearted attempt, the lack of valor, doomed the entire opportunity. that has everything to do with how snowden chose to handle it. look, a couple months ago it took me about 15 minutes to see the history of how these things go, snowden certainly could have done that. i never claim to be smart but i do claim to look into things and try and base my view on the history, which is what i've done here.

lost opportunity is due to snowden. ending up on the lamb in russia isn't good for anybody.

dyna mo 08-02-2013 01:31 PM

what planet do you live on that doesn't have a snooping government? :1orglaugh

not saying it's cool, just point out you are not exempt.

that's funny.

so what is your problem then....

no, the nsa heard the whistle and "all" of those stories are now re: the nsa stating for the record they snoop and it's perfectly legal.

not only that, but any of the other below the fold stories are about our fucked up politicians endorsing the nsa and their snooping programs.

my *problem* is snowden did more harm than good. i'm not saying there's a blueprint for how to become an ex-nsa snoop leaker, but his ill-thought out plan not only defeated any opportunity/chance/hope for change actually caused more harm by putting just enough data out there to have the government defend the nsa snooping and to cause the nsa to say yup, we snoop and according to snowden it's all very legal.

I don't know. My own fucked up government never claimed that it's a free country. I know how exactly my government is spying on me. It does use CORM and CORM2. They don't work permanently, they can't catch encrypted traffic etc. At least I'm informed about that shit, I know how to avoid it and I don't believe that my country is land of the free.

Do you?

so you're saying the special laws targeting homosexuals etc.. those mean they're UBER class citizens, rather than 'no better than dogs'?

I should tell everyone in the city to stop pouring out your booze, and stop planning on boycotting your olympics

you aren't discriminating against these folks, you're putting them on a PEDESTAL

aren't these miscommunications funny?

I am not surprised at all. However, i am surprised at your countries behaviour.

Honestly some rednecks/immigrants are still bent outta shape about it here in Canada.

One joke about homophobia and the 'why' of it all, generally straightens them right out.

if you don't mind the pun : D

successful police state propaganda & brainwashing. Im amazed so many people fall for it, like they havent heard about nazi Germany and how Hitler had so many supporters.

I would love to live in Russia for one year. That's the good thing of being brazilian: we don't have problems with any nation in the world, only internal problems with ourselves.

winter_ 08-02-2013 10:10 PM

i think snowden really is stupid and thinks whoever associates with him in any way is stupid too. logistically, how does running to hong kong from los angeles or where ever in the united states then get transported to moscow, russia, again, make logistical sense? if he was on his way back to be prosecuted by united states law in the united states?

snowden is essentially a traitor and good for him he has been saved by the russians but i don't really care.
