A few simple tips for hassle-free cab rides in Budapest
Don't hail a cab, call for one
A few of the official local cab companies

- Save their phone # and just call for a cab whenever you need one. All of them have English speaking operators and your car will usually arrive within 5-10 minutes.
more options
Paying with a card
- If you want to pay with a card just let the operator know when you call for one and they'll send a car that is equipped with a POS terminal. Be warned though that your card may not go through. It is highly recommended to have cash on you.
Non-smoking cars
- If you want to ensure you get a non-smoking car, just let the operator know and they'll send you a car that matches that criteria.
Premium class
- Certain cab companies have a fleet of premium cars, if that is important to you, let the operator know to send you one of their premium class cars. This might delay the arrival of your cab, however.
Avoid getting ripped off
- Relatively simple. Don't hail a cab on the street (there's quite a few unofficial cabs, these are the ones you'll want to avoid), ignore people that walk up to you and ask you whether you need a taxi and check to ensure the taximeter is running.
Airport transfers
As soon as you exit the airport you'll find a booth (see below), walk up and they'll get you a cab. Transfers to and from the airport are flat rate.
