These issues affect everyone. (except Canadians... though that never stops _Richard_) These issues are about what we expect of people. What society expects of people. What standards a society has. What standards a society wants to hold its people to.... and what we expect of each and every person. The "American Dream" was never "get a low paying job and then demand more from society". The message "hey no-skilled assholes who have no value in the workplace because you have no skills, experience or education - you deserve more". is not a great message. I will pay for it directly with higher costs. I will pay for it indirectly as we continue to create a society that - instead of demanding the best effort from everyone and that expects everyone to strive for greatness is slowly being replaced with self entitled idiots who know absolutely nothing about how the world works and believe they need to be rewarded for non-achievement. The message should be "you need to keep moving up. You need to keep working harder. Keep improving your skills. You need to keep improving your education and INCREASE YOUR VALUE in the workplace. Not simply demand more for a job you shouldn't be doing for more than a year anyway... because its not a career, nor was it ever meant to be" I am not uber wealthy. I don't try to be. I try to enjoy my life. I don't think I am better than anyone because of my bank account. I think I am better than those who don't try.. because I and those I choose to surround myself with, do. |

I once had a clown like you troll me for several years in a forum I was admin of. Every stinking day he showed up to boost his self image at what he thought was my expense. As it turns out, the forum didn't have a single outside reader. The 30 something registered members and 300 something forum guests were actually the sockpuppets of me and 3 friends. He finally caught on after 2 years and decided to quit while he was behind. Prove to me you are smarter than that and I'll cut you some slack. In the meantime, don't waste any more effort in keystrokes trying to convey an opinion to me. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. Please go back to the bridge you crawled out from under. |
You keep using the word "troll" and cling to the concept of "being trolled" which implies some sort of superiority on your part as if you actually have any purpose or point or argument, which you don't. Since you aren't smart enough to hold your own ground, you have to cling to this fabricated notion that you are somehow on the high ground as it is. Troll.... The use of that word is the final refuge of an intellectual lightweight. That's because you - though quite dumb, are smart enough to at least recognize that intellectually you are outgunned. You dodge the substance of the argument because you have to. Would end up being quite embarrassing for you if you didn't.

Alright, back to the goddam topic already ...........
Many Americans work harder than the lazy-online-gambling-let's-all-vote-no-because-the-prez-is-a-Democrat-we're-dickwads-who-are-always-on-vacation politicians and the pay in the paychecks on both sides should reflect that. Democracy has spoken!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: * strokes out and slumps over onto keyboard * |
Now that I have an IV and I am duct taped into my chair ..............
Paying a minimum wage because the law dictates that it is the minimum you are required to pay, you end up with masses demanding a wage increase. Paying a living wage and you end up with masses who have no need for welfare. And while some may squander their wages, working more and living frugally for a duration would allow those persons to catch up and become less likely to repeat the same behavior because they learned a valuable lesson in the process. If you walk ten steps to the left or right of your bloated self importance, you might understand the concept of reaping what you sow. Now, why is it necessary to pay workers the bare minimum? the most likely answer is A) you are determined to make more than the bare minimum B) you are an asshole C) you and other assholes like you lack any foresight as to how this will yield economic consequences in the long run, to which you will grumble about in Internets Forums -and- D) all of the above. |

Not getting into the minimum wage argument, just pointing out your error. |
Let's all look at the bright side of this.
If it wasn't for the minimum wage law and increases of said minimum wage, the poor people would have revolted long ago over their 25 cent hourly wages deemed generous and eaten the filthy rich people. |

And after tonight thanks to Gov Brown illegals can legally get California drivers licenses and legally drive their illegal asses to the higher wage jobs.

How many people would raising the minimum wage lift out of poverty and off of welfare?
How many people being ridiculed for not trying to improve themselves got their entry level position for just that reason? Historically, how has raising the minimum wage helped or hurt the economy as a whole? Why do the same few people whine whenever there's a discussion about raising wages to what still amounts to far less than a living wage? |

Its like people on welfare are pieces of shit, these who are working are pieces of shit because they would like to make a whole 15 bucks an hr. Its like make up your mind which way you want it lol. Youre funding what should be businesses expenses thru your tax dollars when these people are paid shit? Alittle fyi truman almost doubled min wage and the world didnt end and prices didnt go thru the roof. |

It won't take long to see if a higher minimum works.
If it doesn't those businesses affected will lose money and close. Companies like McD's know their demographics. If they can't afford the increase they will simply raise the prices of their products. No matter, there will always be a loser when people in government who don't run businesses think they know more than people who do. |

It's not my responsibility to make sure that every piece of shit unskilled worker or apathetic lazy teenager on the planet is making $15.00/hour with all of the latest apple gadgets and living like MTV Cribs. If you want those things, you sacrifice the same as many successful did and go to school or learn to climb the corporate ladder. This comes down to personal accountability and responsibility. The buck stops with YOU. :2 cents: |

It is more expensive to exist in 2013 where gas is $3.59 a gallon and the federal minimum wage is $7.25, then it was in the 1988 when gas was 89 cents a gallon and the min wage was $3.35. :) |

If you can be replaced by a Craigslist and trained within a day, then you're unskilled. You should be paid the bare minimum. If you do not like it, acquire some skills, go get an education, or learn something that makes you more of an asset to a company where they are willing to pay you more. It's not up to society to pay you for making bad life and career choices. :2 cents: |

It's the cheap ass AMERICAN CONSUMER that dictates a low wage not business.
American consumers don't care manufacturing jobs moved to China or they would insist on buying "made in America" labeled goods at slightly higher prices. They don't. If there is a demand for something American business would fill it. If a fast food owner opened a location guaranteeing $15 an hour and great benefits per entry level worker he would be out of business in 6 months. The same people whining here about low wages would be to cheap to pay the higher food prices and shop at the cheaper restaurants. American consumers are all about price and not about pride in quality. Why do you think the largest retailer in the country is fucking walmart. American consumers don't care their clothes are made in sweat shops. American consumers don't care their Christmas ornaments are made by 10 year old children locked in dirt floored rooms. They sure as shit don't care about the person flipping a burger. . |
Minimum wage should be tied to cost of living, inflation, etc with automatic periodic increases.
Raising the minimum wage to $10 will simply bring it in line of the min wage in the 1970s when accounting for inflation. Entry level job pay has fallen since all of us had our chances for entry level jobs. But hey keep ignoring the people trying to work and feed themselves and just keep patting yourself on the back that you are so successful in life and you did it all by yourself with no help from anyone and certainly nothing the government did. |

Right. Why wouldn't someone who's busted their fucking ass feel good about just giving their hard earned money made through years of sacrifice to someone with their hand out feeling they are entitled to the same standard of living "just because" or saying it's unfair. Life's not fair, and the sooner you understand this concept, the better off you'll be. :disgust |

I recently read that if the minimum wage in 1968 would have kept up with inflation/the cost of living...the minimum wage now would have to be $21 plus dollars per hour.
|
In another article I read that 40% of American workers make less than the 1968 minimum wage when adjusted for inflation/the cost of living.
|
Are some people seriously complaining about fast food workers making $10/hr? Really?? Lol why do you give a fuck? Because your burger might go up in price 25 cents? 10 bucks an hr is still a shitty wage. Chill the fuck out and worry about your own life and income.
