Johnny Mnemonic
Altered States (Ayahuasca baby)
Soylent Green
Resident Evil
Omega Man
Tron

Blade Runner (Fucking Epic)
LifeForce (loves me some Mathilda May perfect titties and hairy pussy since 1985.)
Pitch Black
They Live
Lawnmower Man
Terminator
The Matrix
Aliens
Predator
The Thing (Kurt Russel not James Arness)
Scanners

I guess that's enough. :pimp

DraX 10-10-2013 07:57 PM

Im a fan of sci-fi's too, lots of fun when they are good.

Did you miss these ones:

Prometheus
Pandorum
V (old original) New one does not deserve to be mentioned.

I remember back around 1993-94-95, I was home alone and watched a sci-fi mini-serie during a weekend on a friday and saturday. If I can remember correctly it was 2 parts not 3, but not entirely sure.

1 hour 30 min x 2 or 3

It was so exciting, I hate not to be able to find that feeling again or the name of the show. Been looking alot in the past on internet but not able to recognise anything - plots, stills or from youtube.

Most of the movie was spent on a spaceship, they had all sort of problems. Think a robot was part of the team, a sexy girl, some guys.

That's all I can remember, only small small fragments.

The Man Who Fell To Earth

Great film with David Bowie, Candy Clark. Rip Torn, and Buck Henry!
How can you go wrong with a cast like that.

Someone else mentioned The Thing - I'd definitely include it in sci-fi, too.

Good picks.

CaptainHowdy 10-11-2013 06:29 AM

Grew up watching this shit ...

Saw Videodrome on a list. Rightious flick!!!

crockett 10-11-2013 07:30 AM

Alien and aliens likely my two favorite.. However I like a wide range of sci fi films.

I haven't seen Prometheus, but eventually I'll check it out.

Here are a few others I liked:

Deja Vu (Denzel Washington)
A Sound of Thunder
Pink Floyd: The Wall
1984
Logan's Run
The Island
AI
The Matrix
Farenheit 451
Contact (Jodie Foster)

Paul 10-11-2013 09:02 AM

Mission To Mars (2000) bombed at the box office but I thought it was great!

Gary Sinise, Tim Robbins & Don Cheadle, what a cast!

No one has mentioned Stargate (1994)

Gravity (2013)
Cloverfield (2008)
The Thirteenth Floor (1999)

Duncan Jones has impressed me with

Moon (2009) & Source Code (2011)

So few really good Sci-Fi films around, LOVE the genre when they get it right!

I loved Children of Men but appeared to be pretty much the only one amongst people that I know.

Nicole24 10-11-2013 11:03 AM

Bladerunner! One of the best movies ever!

Lexx was pretty good (in a so bad it is good way) for a Red Dwarf remake.

Tom_PM 10-11-2013 04:01 PM

Did anyone say Robinson Crusoe on Mars yet? It's the kind of B movie that holds your attention the whole time. Check it out.

:(

I loved it too! It was awesome, great plot, cast and beautifully shot.

Perhaps the plot was too depressing for people to handle, I thought Michael Caine was truly exceptional in Children Of Men and just look at the list of films he's be in since!

Still going strong at 80 years young :pimp

Definitely check out Alfonso Cuarón's new film Gravity it's getting even better reviews than Children Of Men

That film is the only reason I don't write off Clive Owen. They filmed part of the bombed out building scenes on the high street in the town next to where I lived at the time. It nearly made it look better..lol.

I actually got mad at it nearly being ignored at the Oscars.

What was sci-fi about "Taken"?

As for how good a movie it was...I'd wager this would be an estrogen vs. testosterone debate. :)

2MuchMark 10-11-2013 06:49 PM

Gravity
Forbidden Planet
Primer
Contact
War of the Worlds (original but remake is good too)
Back to the Future 1, 2, 3
Somewhere in Time (romantic mush but still good)
Logans Run
4D Man

THE ISLAND <<<<<< YES! Fucking love that movie. I've seen it 10 times easily.

But "A Sound of Thunder"? Really? I thought that movie was terrible especially thanks to the most sloppy visual effects I've ever seen in any modern movie. (Pay attention the lead characters when they are walking in the futurist city in the beginning of the movie. Doesn't it look just a little... off?)

A Scanner Darkly
Iron Sky
Oblivion
Pi
Primer
Sphere
The Adjustment Bureau
Unbreakable
The Prophecy
World War Z

You're thinking of the 2008 action flick with Liam Neeson, I posted the link to the 2002 Sci-Fi mini series starring Dakota Fanning

Quote:

Taken spans five decades and four generations, centering on three families: the Keys, Crawfords, and Clarkes. World War II veteran Russell Keys is plagued by nightmares of his abduction by aliens during the war
It's excellent!

Very cool :thumbsup I agree Clive Owen is not a great actor, he's had a couple of good roles and everything else has been pretty lame.

Europa Report (2013) is really good if you like realistic Sci-fi

I'm really looking forward to Christopher Nolan's Interstellar (2014)

Quote:

A group of explorers make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
I'm sure it'll be exceptional as always!

smoothballs 10-12-2013 02:52 PM

Cube

Great movie, got overlooked as it came out around same time as Matrix

smoothballs 10-12-2013 03:19 PM

Equilibrium

Not scrolled back but sure this has not been mentioned :)

Maybe it is because Red Dwarf did not air in germany, but i never had heard of that show until Dollar Pounds became reality a few weeks ago.

It is a cult classic in the UK and Lexx follows the same format of a ship lost in space/time with those on board consisting of a former maintenance man, a dead guy, a half human/half animal, a robot and a talking ship computer.

armysmoke 10-14-2013 04:30 PM

My favorites are

Starship Tropper
Alien
Total Recall (new version)
Dredd (new version)
Fifth Element

I would also add Screamers to the list - pretty much anything based on the writings of Phillip K. Dick actually, but I think most of them have already been mentioned.

I watched the remake of Total Recall the other day. Not bad!

Doomsday

A futuristic action thriller where a team of people work to prevent a disaster threatening the future of the human race.

Scott McD 10-15-2013 01:33 PM

The horrific "shakey camera" in Colverfield ruined it for me.

Why they felt the need to make it quite so extreme baffles me. Gives me a migraine.

Jman 10-15-2013 01:36 PM

One of my favorite sci fi is blade runner.

Sarah_Jayne 10-15-2013 03:04 PM

Galaxy Quest is one of the last films to have its lines enter the everyday vernacular of my friends. Even this weekend, when I was having to repeat whatever the Google Maps GPS voice said, I commented that I felt like when Sigourney Weaver's character complains that her only job is to repeat what the computer says.
