The government isn't even pretending that they want to dumb people down anymore. In the last election one of Rick Santorum's talking points was that an education was over rated. He called people will college educations stuck up and said it wasn't something people need (of course he and his wife both have law degrees and I'm sure their kids will be going to college). They just want you to stay dumb and vote for the same lies that they keep repackaging and selling over and over even if doing so is actually against your own best interest.
