2003 Toyota Tacoma I bought new. It is like the one in the big picture...4 wheeler...6 cylinder 190 horsepower and is still like new. I have put about 78,000 thousand miles on it and expect it to last me the rest of my life.

Eh, this thread wasn't as bad as usual. You just HAVE to laugh when people who can't afford $15,000 cars bitch about those of us who drive much fancier stuff. It's just SO obvious how jealous they are, but it doesn't make it any less annoying. :upsidedow

I enjoy seeing the cars people have as i'm a huge car person and seeing other people's cars / mods gives me ideas and sometime motivation. Best car thread ever on gfy - MarcD!

thx, needed minor work when I got it. dude tore out the glove box to install a car stereo, cool he didnt fuck up the dash an left shit orig. cost me $30 for a new box. its a all day project, gotta find the time to install it.

I've had it for a year, and I'm still here.:winkwink:
It handles good and has decent brakes. It fits in my car philosophy. I'd rather be able to avoid an accident than to survive one.

Accidents can't always be avoided though. I make my fiance drive around in our X5 because I like the idea of her being in a big, heavy beast (I know it's not the biggest SUV but we're in europe so most of the cars here are tiny in comparison). If someone pulls out in front of her and she can't avoid the accident she'll at least have mass on her side. You can't trick the laws of physics and better someone else then her and my kid.

dyna mo 12-22-2013 07:56 AM

smart car gets a good safety rating when tested. it's perfectly fine & safe driving in urban areas. certainly up against an 18 wheeler on a highway it will lose, but so will a big sedan.

The law of physics goes out the door when an 18 wheeler crosses the center-lane.
I've been driving for a lot of decades, and to date have never had a moving accident.
I've avoided tons of accidents by having good brakes and having cars that respond quickly.

If all of a sudden I stop posting, you'll know my theory had flaws.

Of course, an 18 wheeler will mangle anything, but most vehicles on the road are not 18 wheelers and sometimes you don't see anything coming at all... As for good brakes and handling - that's not everything. You have to factor in reflex as well, which gets slower as you get older. I read somewhere that a 0,2 second longer reaction time gives you something like 20 extra meters before you stop from 100kph.

Stopping distances (100kph - 0):
Smart Fortwo - 39 meters
Merc S550 - 32,9 meters
BMW X5 3.0 Diesel (E70) - 39 meters
BMW M3 - 30,5 meters

Anyways, to each their own and I hope you drive that thing safely for many years to come, but again - to me I cannot imagine a more terrifying vehicle then that Smart :2 cents:

I had the same year Tacoma but it was the crew cab in black. I just sold it last month, but was a very good truck. I now have a 86 VW Vanagon syncro that I'm restoring, it's the rare 4x4 model.

I trade cars a lot, and I have lots of different tastes, so my cars all over the map. Currently driving a 2012 Infiniti QX56, and just traded a 2012 Corvette GS for a 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor. Now, we have an order for the 2014 Corvette, and once that comes in (hopefully within 6 weeks), we'll trade the Infiniti in on that.

I guess I should look for pics, but I'm too tired now. It's on my to do list for tomorrow...

Aren't you losing TONS of money on depreciation like that? I actually never buy brand new cars from the dealer. I'd rather pay 30% less for a 2 year old one - still works fine, still looks great, you'd never have to put the 30% price difference in it in repairs anyways. IMHO All you really gain otherwise is that you get to be the first to fart on the seats :2 cents:

In Eastern Europe, most of the 2 years cars are after crash. Not an easy to spot for the regular Joe. In normal conditions people rarely sell car after 2 years - what would be the point of buying new and selling after 2 years for a huge loss? :)

I would rather buy a $15k car that's clean and fix it up. I have never owned a new car and I never will. It's not about cost, it's about the amount of money you lose on one. My pickup, I paid 7k for 8 years ago, it now has 170k miles on it and still looks like a new pickup, I get compliments on it all the time. My Harley was only $8600 and had only 18k miles on it and I get girls wanting to go for rides all the time.
I would rather buy a beat up 70 Dodge Charger with a straight body, rebuild the motor, paint the car and get some good wheels than buy a new Charger.
In a couple years, when things settle down, I'm going to get a project car and build something. I grew up building cars and I have all the tools!
I wouldn't buy a new Harley right now because of all the changes they just made, maybe in a couple years

Of course - most cars here after 2 years are either after crash or with fake mileage. German buys new A6, drives it on autobahn for 2 years putting 220k on it and suddenly car is for sale in poland with 70k :)

As for crashed, there are of course some butchers that fix cars and they leave 4 lines in the snow when driving straight but it's all good if the car is fixed properly.

Had a bunch of Cobras before... really need to start modding this one. Just too many other little things that take up the time.

Wife just got a Leaf, it's pretty neat. Pretty zippy with full torque from a stop. Neat little things like full view cameras, regenerative braking, solar panel, etc... she was blowing $$$ on short trips per month with her supercharged Range Rover. Keeping that for longer (read 80+ mile round trips). It's weird to just drive anywhere for no reason in the Leaf. Not like you're going to waste any gas :P

It's funny when I was 17 to 25 I had 100s of pics of all my cars.

Now all I have is a picture at the gas station of my GT500 on the way home from the dealer to text a few friends. Think I had 2 of my M6 from before that lol :)

Guess I used to be more active in car forums and stuff when I was younger... no real reason to take pics now...

Now I have tons of pictures of our trees and reef tanks though :P
