Well it is on of the most expensive SUV's, so it must be better than most :) Of course part of it goes to brand price as well.
I heard somewhere that much of Cayenne was same as VW Toureg. Not sure if thats true.

I thought it would be good for a third car in the event we needed it, and we could haul stuff if needed. I'm not sure why, but once I decided to buy a truck I knew exactly what I wanted - an older Chevy Stepside. I found one locally for sale; The kid who owned it had turned it into a mud truck, jacked it up, and put big ass mud tires on it. I am a computer geek, not a mechanic, and I fixed as much as I could and had a repair shop do the rest. I also had it painted. It's twenty-five years old, has 160k miles, and runs like it's brand new.

It's come in handy hauling stuff, and the four wheel drive is lots of fun.

http://rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/truck.jpg

A few years after buying the truck and fixing it up, I decided I liked four wheel drive and decided to buy a jeep.

http://rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/jeep.jpg

The fucking Jeep has lighted cup holders. It's come in handy a few times. One time at a campground we got lost the road was less of a road and more of a wide trail, and another time we were meeting someone at the local lake and there is no way a regular car could have made it.

However, I miss the Mustangs and always wanted a convertible. I am looking for a 2004 Mustang GT convertible, red, and when I find one in decent condition I'll snatch it up.

It is so odd how much we are alike...

I am a Jeep man myself. My Cherokee and I have been to hell and back. So many crazy places. It is scratched and tore up from the floor up... but I love it all the same. I love to roll up to a hotel or casino and toss the person parking the cars a $20 and tell them to park it up front. They look at it and at the $20 bill and they are like... fuck.... Then they alert the staff that a VIP is coming in and park my car next to the Porsche and Bentley.

Know what I love about a car like an Olds 442? You can actually work on it. When you open the hood, all you see are the heads, a distributor cap and the spark plug wires. Most present day engines are a nightmare of tubes and hoses.

What I love about my cars is I can go anyplace at any time. Last week I made a wrong turn and ended up on a the wrong freeway ramp. No problem - Just popped the curb and flipped around back out to the road I was original street I was on, pavement not required.

Other than my intentional fun and games, twice I've found myself in positions where a regular car just couldn't go. I just say "no problem" and just plow through it.

I've learned two things recently....

1) Those odd piles of dirt on construction sites that look like future freeway onramps... Aren't meant to be driven on.

2) I have a new Jeep and an twenty-five year old truck and the truth is... They both get me from point A to point B in pretty much the same level of comfort.

Eh, this thread wasn't as bad as usual. You just HAVE to laugh when people who can't afford $15,000 cars bitch about those of us who drive much fancier stuff. It's just SO obvious how jealous they are, but it doesn't make it any less annoying. :upsidedow

I've had it for a year, and I'm still here.:winkwink:
It handles good and has decent brakes. It fits in my car philosophy. I'd rather be able to avoid an accident than to survive one.

Accidents can't always be avoided though. I make my fiance drive around in our X5 because I like the idea of her being in a big, heavy beast (I know it's not the biggest SUV but we're in europe so most of the cars here are tiny in comparison). If someone pulls out in front of her and she can't avoid the accident she'll at least have mass on her side. You can't trick the laws of physics and better someone else then her and my kid.

dyna mo 12-22-2013 07:56 AM

smart car gets a good safety rating when tested. it's perfectly fine & safe driving in urban areas. certainly up against an 18 wheeler on a highway it will lose, but so will a big sedan.

The law of physics goes out the door when an 18 wheeler crosses the center-lane.
I've been driving for a lot of decades, and to date have never had a moving accident.
I've avoided tons of accidents by having good brakes and having cars that respond quickly.

If all of a sudden I stop posting, you'll know my theory had flaws.

Of course, an 18 wheeler will mangle anything, but most vehicles on the road are not 18 wheelers and sometimes you don't see anything coming at all... As for good brakes and handling - that's not everything. You have to factor in reflex as well, which gets slower as you get older. I read somewhere that a 0,2 second longer reaction time gives you something like 20 extra meters before you stop from 100kph.

Stopping distances (100kph - 0):
Smart Fortwo - 39 meters
Merc S550 - 32,9 meters
BMW X5 3.0 Diesel (E70) - 39 meters
BMW M3 - 30,5 meters

Anyways, to each their own and I hope you drive that thing safely for many years to come, but again - to me I cannot imagine a more terrifying vehicle then that Smart :2 cents:

I had the same year Tacoma but it was the crew cab in black. I just sold it last month, but was a very good truck. I now have a 86 VW Vanagon syncro that I'm restoring, it's the rare 4x4 model.

ExtremeBank_Adam 12-22-2013 10:59 PM

I trade cars a lot, and I have lots of different tastes, so my cars all over the map. Currently driving a 2012 Infiniti QX56, and just traded a 2012 Corvette GS for a 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor. Now, we have an order for the 2014 Corvette, and once that comes in (hopefully within 6 weeks), we'll trade the Infiniti in on that.

I guess I should look for pics, but I'm too tired now. It's on my to do list for tomorrow...

Aren't you losing TONS of money on depreciation like that? I actually never buy brand new cars from the dealer. I'd rather pay 30% less for a 2 year old one - still works fine, still looks great, you'd never have to put the 30% price difference in it in repairs anyways. IMHO All you really gain otherwise is that you get to be the first to fart on the seats :2 cents:
