And the inner city youth won't have that fast dollar to make selling drugs on the street. It will all be obsolete. They will find other things to romanticize and strive for.
It's hard to tell a black kid in the ghetto that he should go to school and work hard...when he sees other guys selling drugs with lots of money and hot women and cool cars.

Think about it...when you see a news story these days on CNN where the DEA just busted a big marijuana shipment coming in from Mexico...doesn't it sound downright silly now that so many states are legalizing it?

It would be the same with coke and other drugs too.

Then the police could actually go back to arresting people when they commit a "real" crime like stealing, killing, or raping.

All this "drug war" has led to is stealing and killing in such numbers that it's overwhelming. And that in turn has led to even more loss of our rights as cops are setting up "stings", frisking people on the streets, searching our cars, our women's purses, etc.

The whole goddamn thing is spiraling out of control.

And yet after all these decades? Drug use is UP.

It's insanity in my mind.
It's because the war on drugs is big business.. With out the war on drugs, police depts wouldn't get those big property seizures for cities and states. The defense contractors would be selling all those cool new tools to the cops. For profit prisons wouldn't be able to keep their prisons at 95% min occupancy.

There is just as much money at play on the fight against as there is on the supply side of drugs. States and local govt's don't want to give up that money. Perhaps that's why they are ratcheting up the war on terror with local police forces to replace the lost income when drugs are finally legalized.

With out a drug war it means less cops on the street and no one wants that, so unless there is a reason to keep the cops on the street drugs will stay illegal.

Asserting that all black people are Democrats is a mildly dumb ass insinuation. Almost as dumb as assuming all white people are anti-Obama, pro gun, and pro-Jesus closet Klansman.

And even bigger dumb ass assertion comes when anyone defends the policies of either party, assuming that the party, and the career politicians who comprise the party actually give a fuck about them more than they give a fuck about the corporations who keep them paid to fuck the people who elected them... Which they do not.

Keep fighting over dumb shit. Keep voting. Your vote counts. Pay no attention to the fact that for the last 20 years that the nose-dive economy hasn't changed a bit no matter who controlled the house and no matter who the president was. Turn Duck Dynasty on and go back to sheep.

When you got the site that published this study and scroll down it shows a lot of info on the top 25 conservative and liberal cities. To me the big, glaring differences (and I think it accounts for much of the crime difference) is the difference in poverty level in those cities.

The conservatives cities have an average of 12.252% of their population at or below the poverty line. In the liberal cities that number jumps to 22.252%. So there are nearly twice as many poor people living in the liberal cities as the conservatives cites. Poverty breeds self destruction and crime.

I have a feeling these crime statistics have a little more to do with economic situation than political ideology.

Have you seen the crime rate in Orlando? Florida has long been a Republican run state for as long as I can remember. How about Dallas? Look how bad the crime rate is in Dallas and some of Texas's other big cities which are very conservative cities. then look at Austin which is a very liberal city. It's quite literally night and day difference.

Austin was one of the cleanest cities I've visited and I felt safe traveling around there. Meanwhile Dallas and Forth worth just reminded me of the slums and was IMO just a large Orlando. It felt like I had to be careful were I went.

It's not if it's a red state or a blue state, but rather the population of the cities and how the local govt runs it. You could easily tell, that Austin puts a great deal of effort into keeping their city clean and keeping the crime rate low. Everything was well kept and the people there took pride in their city. Then look at Dallas and it was run down and shitty. That translates to the local govt not doing their job which will lead to higher crime rates.

I'm from Florida and my family still lives there. They are all "old south" Democrats. Always have been.

And if you notice, I didn't go by "State" I went by city. The local govt. of Detroit (along with their ass kissing of the unions there) destroyed that town. They are bankrupt. Business is RUNNING from there.

Orlando? It's a beautiful city (I lived there at one time and go there a lot). Lots of money, lots of businesses moving IN.

Dallas is a big urban city. The only places in Dallas with Republicans (who are also crooks...but not as much into big govt.) are the suburbs where all the people with money live.

And they'd rather try to be like their favorite rapper than to realize they could be making serious money if they only got off their asses, told the govt. "no thanks for you welfare" and traveled a hundred miles where the big paying jobs are waiting for them.

I've spent time in all 3 cities (Detroit almost 20 years ago, and it was already fucked even then).

I would feel perfectly fine living in Orlando (one of my aunts lives there now). I would NOT feel good about moving to Detroit.
And Detroit is as perfect an example of big govt./big unions/anti-business as exists in this world.

Detroit had it all. (still could).
It was the center of the universe for the automotive industry.

But the crooked politicians and unions got so greedy that nobody will open a car plant there now.

That's why you see cars being made in South Carolina, Tennessee...ANYWHERE but Detroit.

The people of Detroit deserved better. But the govt. and unions fucked them.
