My brother just became a fire fighter at the age of 49. He's going to EMT class now and is really getting into it. Proud of him!
He started in a volunteer engine house and is now trying to get into a paying one. I'll bet he makes it

Not sure that I understand your response. I was simply relating a story of my own experience in the FD hiring process and the fact that my race and gender were specifically quoted as the reasons why I would not get hired for a job that is run by the government.
