And i also work from home since forever, almost never experienced office work.I was actually studying this and concluded how it depend on your life settings,as both ways have their advantages and cons.
Working at home have following - 1.No additional financial cost 2.Saving on gas and time 3.Faster response time in case of emergencies (once i had servers going down often, was waking up in 3am by cellphone uptime warning) While having office have following advantages: 1.Separated private and business life (at home someone can always bother you and not respecting your work) 2.Real human to human contact 3.Office banter 4.Brain can work better due change of scenery(but again depend from person to person) And here is good old comic probaly already seen by everyvone but it is good reminder: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/working_home |

I guess working from home doesn't affect your productivity as much as long as you have no distractions there (meaning other people who have a hard time to respect that you actually work). On the other hand working from the office can boost your productivity, if you work in the right team. |
home :thumbsup

I work in an office now. Prior to this, I worked from home for over a decade. I thought it was going to be difficult to make the transition but it actually feels good to go home and have it be home rather than always being at work.

Agreed. I am seriously thinking about renting an office, but the travelling sucks + the intenet connection is actually better at home. Fuck it, I still want an office, I am too lazy and constantly distracted here. |
Sometimes you can 'split the baby' and work from home on 'little things' (checking email, etc) and save the heavy lifting for an office. But I wouldn't recommend renting out an OFFICE office. Try a virtual office deal where you also get space for x # of days per month. Or even find another home in the area close to you (less commuting) that has an office you can rent.
But if you're talking about renting an office space you better have the income to justify it. |
From home, fuck human interaction with retarded office jerks.

Working from office - productive. Working from home - not so productive, to many distractions. So, I am for the office part which I like, more fun to have somebody to chat with, concentrate better on the job, see a new Model, visit the studio, usual stuff :)

If you want to run a business, you have an office.
If your biggest aspirations are to work in your pajamas, work from home |
If the work is the same probably it's better working in the office...but if my home job is for my personal company, it's better than working in an office, but working at home probably you'll spend more time on your projects than working 8 hours in an office for a third part.

home, nothing better than a nice desk, big ass monitor and a view, plus I like the isolation, but thats just me :)

I work from home. I have a full time dedicated office with two work stations and professional office / business desks - None of this Ikea shit.
I like working from home. No time wasted getting to and from the office, and no co-workers to distract me. And when I need to work after hours and weekends, it's not like I "have to go to the office". in fact, this is my main work station: http://www.rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/office.jpg |

Moved from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 2 bedroom loft last May, 2nd bedroom is now an office that has nothing in it besides computer/desk, printer, file cabinet, 5.1 surround so basically only go in the room to work, doorway faces my living room TV so I don't miss football if I got work to do, tv shows I just DVR but sports like to glance a bit while it's live, have an extra TV I could throw in the office but like to keep it strictly business with no distractions.

I envy you guys that work @ home. I don't mind the office, but the commute sure sucks.

There is no right or wrong answer, it just depends on your goals and aspirations If your goal is to be making 7 figures plus then an office is a requirement for most, the positives outweigh the negatives ten fold. |

100% Home office since 2007.
I have a dedicated office in the house just for my business. My wife and kids understand that once the door is closed I am "at work" ... My productivity has been FAR better at the home office where I can think, plot and be free from the mindless office banter that just kills a few hours in a day. My team has set times that we have conference calls to talk biz. We are very organized with our agenda and action plans.... This alone has saved a ton of the impromptu calls that also kill your "primetime" as I call the working hours. Moving to home offices has made my team FAR happier. They can at times get the personal things done ( car to the shop for an oil change, pickup kids, have a decent lunch, etc ) and also perform at a much higher rate than when we were all in the office. Once a month: We all meet up for lunch and talk live. At this point: Its good to see each other in person. This gives some human interaction outside my wife and son ... plus I also hang out with my friends every so often ( which is not all that much as were all married with kids now ) ... mostly I enjoy just being with my family at home. My advice to be as productive as possible from home: Make your work space just that - your WORK space. Set time limits to be there .. In my case: From 730am to 6pm I am in my office and post 6pm I roll downstairs to see my family, have dinner and lounge about in my living room/outside if its nice out. The most I have at night near me is an iPad for non-work surfing and my phone.... |

Anyone looked into coworking? I tried it for a few months in London last summer to force myself to meet new people in a new city... The commute and interruption of my morning routine sucked though, I quit going after a couple of weeks. I get a lot of shit done rolling out of bed and hitting the computer with my morning coffee.
