That is a premature statement if there ever was one. The Yugoslav War(s) for example didn't just start suddenly, there's still plenty of potential for escalation. Hopefully you're right though. I don't think any of the players, from Kiev to the West to Putin himself remotely want war but unintended events have a way of shaping reality.

What cracks me up here, is that you have armed militants seizing government buildings (let's ignore the possibility of many of them being Russian FSB or whatever operatives), making roadblocks, etc - yet if the Ukrainian Army acts against them, they resist, and people are shot, Russia will most likely use that as pretext to "protect Russian citizens" and occupy East Ukraine. So the Ukrainian army is on eggshells and is essentially powerless to do anything because they can't shoot for fear of that being the excuse that loses 1/3 of their country. So then you get situations like a bunch of armed dudes commandeering armored personnel carriers, etc.

Yet if there were equivalent militants in Russia occupying government buildings, making roadblocks, demanding seccession, etc - they would be dead as dead can be 1000x over. There is no question of that. And Putin would be saying "Of course we killed them, what do you expect?".
